Alyson Belcher
Ice Portals No. 2573 / black and white nature photography

2017

About the Item

Alyson Belcher's Ice Portals series of black and white photographs depict an unusually cold Northwestern winter. These photographs are records of the unique ice formations that the artist discovered during her early morning walks. Each day she would visit the same location to find a completely new configuration of ice at her feet, depending on the weather. The dramatic changes were the result of snow and ice slowly thawing and refreezing. Fascinating to look at - each image from Belcher's Ice Portal series appears to be an entire mysterious world unto itself. Since the late 1870's, photography has been used to capture things that are ephemeral and invisible to the naked eye. Camera technology has given us the ability to see our world from extreme perspectives, from the smallest of microscopic details to vast aerial landscapes. Each of the topographic studies in Ice Portals is an abstract landscape that challenges our sense of scale. The lines, shapes and textures combined with the mysterious qualities of light and shadow create a confusing space that is fragile and fleeting. Belcher is best known for her haunting and spartan still life compositions, series of nude self portraits, and nature scenes, that arise though both planning and happenstance using primitive hand made pin-hole cameras and hi tech digital cameras, She holds to the idea that everything we experience in life is stored somewhere in our bodies and that essence shows itself in the photograph. The black and white archival pigment print print is 15 x 15 inches. Professionally framed in matte black aluminum with archival museum matting. The frame's outer dimension is 24 x 22 inches. Ed 1/10. Artist signed and titled Verso. Condition is pristine. Alyson Belcher's photographs have been featured in International photography magazines, exhibited coast to coast and collected worldwide. Beautiful hanging on its own or with other prints from the series.

How the Rich do Street Art - Naples Arch
By Robert Funk
Located in Miami, FL
Robert Funk’s photographs of elaborate landscaping redefine what Street Art is. Street Art from the rich is to be found on every corner in Naples. It's a city with perhaps more flowers than weeds. Hedge Fun is a series that celebrates the landscaping commissioned by well-heeled homeowners, high-end condos and ritzy commercial establishments. Shrubs, bushes, and trees are transformed from organic shapes into man-made graphics. They become stripped of surrounding detail to the point that they become abstract in their impact. On any given day in South Florida, there is an army of landscaping trucks with gardeners and groundsmen working meticulously to beautify the street scape...
