About the Item
Street photographer Mitchell Funk captures abstract street patterns in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Absorbing the influence of both the Color Field and Non-Objective painters, Funk was one of the first photographers to apply them to color photography. With his abstract color photographs dating back to 1970, Funk continues innovating 53 years later. Regarding this work, the beautifully composed abstract street pattern with an umbrella-holding pedestrian is only half the story. Funk is doing Street Photography from a place other than the street, which literally and figurative lends a new interpretation to the genre.
This archival color photograph by fine art photographer Mitchell Funk is signed, dated and numbered 3/15, lower right recto. Other sizes are available and the fine art photograph is unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper - Color will vary slightly from monitor to monitor.
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography." In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
