Zoe Wetherall
"Autumn Trees" Contemporary Minimalist Landscape Photograph

2019

About the Item

In this photograph, Zoe Wetherall has composed an abstracted aerial view of golden yellow green foliage and grey horizontal stripes of roads, diffused by shapes of autumn orange and light green trees. A beautiful Fall photograph which captures the essence of the Season and the sense of travel. Wetherall incorporates a balanced natural pallet, fusing elements of nature with man to create a beautiful geometry. Zoe Wetherall is a Brooklyn-based photographer from Australia, who travels the world to photograph abstract aerial landscapes from the point of view of a hot air balloon. Zoe Wetherall photographs at a pace and elevation that gives a truly unique perspective. Hovering about the landscape in a hot air balloon these photographs have abstract the landscape by removing the line of the horizon. Zoe Wetherall’s photos are taken just above us, a bird’s eye view. From a few hundred feet Wetherall photographs straight downward, excluding the horizon, sky, or any visual reference point. Her use of the natural landscape and components of the constructed world are balanced in a harmony accentuated by a focus on naturally occurring geometric patterns and repetition. Her photos tell stories and inspire questions: in “Horses” two horses stand next to a wire fence, the shadows of the fence posts and horses delineate their forms on the ground–tell us what they are–in an otherwise dry brown field of texture. In another photograph a wavy line of bushes separates finely mowed grass from a dense blue water, carefully manicured, and refined–but what is it? She records the structured geometry of natural and man-made forms and uses her camera to reveal the beauty in the subtle patterns hidden in architecture and landscape. Zoe Wetherall is a Brooklyn-based photographer from Australia. She has won numerous photography awards in Tokyo, Moscow, New York, Los Angeles, and Australia, and others.

"Water Well" color photograph, autumn farm landscape painting on abstract wall
By Phillip Buehler
Located in New York, NY
18"x24", signed, editioned color photograph. A lush Fall farm landscape with greens fields, orange trees and red barn painting is contrasted by the placement on a highly distressed wall. Multiple layers of paint in various colors from teal blue, pink, beige, and orange are peeled and cracked creating an abstract pattern of color behind the landscape painting in this photograph. Time and age have created an image of beautiful decay with the cracked and peeling paint, which creates an amazing visual backdrop to the painting. The pairing of the two in this photograph compliment each other on a sensory level and bring out thoughts of nostalgia and longing. Phillip Buehler is a New York based photographer who documents the deterioration and remnants of neglected architecture constructed in the recent past. He is arguably the first to coin the neologism “modern ruins”. His photographs published in “Woody Guthrie’s Wardy Forty,” have won numerous awards, documenting the singer/songwriter/activist’s life at Greystone Park Psychiatric. He received his BA at Rutgers University and his MFA in photography at School of Visual Arts. Phillip Buehler has been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, Art News, The Art...
