About the Item

A young Hamer boy near the village of Turmi, Ethiopia. The young of Hamer society are at an important point in their societies’ history as their way of life is changing from a focus on traditional animals, crops and the trade of rural products – towards tourist-generated income. The Hamer live an existence that in practical (and visual) terms, has a centuries-old lineage. This has brought increasing numbers of foreigners to the region over the last decade. As a result many Hamer families restrict their semi-nomadic movements to a relatively small distance of the three main towns where tourists stay. Some important ceremonies that previously were only performed at events such as harvests or as a precursor to marriage (for example the Hamer bull jumping ceremony) are happening more frequently as they attract a large number of paying tourists. It is the choice of the Hamer and other groups to decide whether the intrusion into their lives, particularly by large organised groups, is worth the price they pay in orienting their way of life towards tourist money. But while the tourists and their money keep flowing, it seems difficult to imagine how these rural people of little wealth and uncertain resources can afford to turn them away. The basic way of living for this child will be markedly different to that of his father and grand-father, and the rate of change is likely to be faster than ever before. John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and in their day to day attire. The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look. Edition of 5; Ed. no. 5/5 (from a sold out edition) Albert Watson (*1942, Scotland) is a Scottish photographer well known for his fashion, celebrity, and art photography, having shot over 200 Vogue and 40 Rolling Stone covers since the mid-1970s. His photographs are signature, classical, and bold, and in our world of manipulation, Watson prefers the enlargers and the trays; an artist who greatly enriches our perception with his unique photographic view. Photo District News named Watson one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others. Watson shared intimate moments about shooting celebrities like Johnny Depp, 50 Cent and Clint Eastwood and dove into the history behind famous shots like the double exposure of Mick Jagger and the leopard that Watson shot by chance. "The leopard was all over Mick so we had to build a glass partition...

Gisele Buendchen Smoking - b&w Portrait with Jewelery, Fine Art Photography 1999
By Michel Comte
Located in Vienna, AT
Black-and-white Portrait of Topmodel Gisele Bündchen with luxurious jewelry and cigarette, photographed by Michel Comte in Cannes for Vogue Italia 1999. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. In 1999, Star Photographer Michel Comte created a series of images capturing intimate moments with a young Gisele Bündchen in Cannes, France, for a Jewelry Campaign published in Vogue Italia. The highly praised artworks are now part of fashion and fine art history and are sought-after worldwide. This black-and-white portrait shows the supermodel with wet hair and smeared makeup as if she had just come back from a swim in the ocean. Her head is tilted back slightly, and the look she is shooting the camera is somewhat condescending yet challenging. With one hand, she is brushing her messy hair out of her face, showing off the cigarette she is holding to the viewer. The grungy and rebellious image is juxtaposed by the lavish jewelry the Model is wearing: Big chandelier earrings...
