About the Item
A portrait of a young Wodaabe man from a town called Bororo in Niger. Bororo is often regarded as the ‘capital city’ of his people. The name Bororo is also commonly used to describe this group of people by other cultures in Niger.
He was clearly intensely proud of his culture and believed deeply in the traditions of his people; as was evident from the facial tattoos and the talisman that hung prominently from his neck.
John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
