Tony Kelly's works are characterized by a smooth sense of luxury, vibrant colors, especially red, and a touch of surrealism. 'Princess Juliana' combines all three of them. A beach filled with people, turquoise water, and hotels forms the backdrop to an Air France plane on low flight. The people at the beach look up as it jets over their heads. In the foreground, the face of a model is visible in profile. Her eyes are closed, and her lips, with bright red lipstick, are open wide as if to swallow the passing airplane. Tony Kelly is one of the most influential fine art photographers of our time. He plays with humor and provocation, and although highly polished, his work is playfully subversive, which forces you to stop and think, inviting us to venture beneath the glossy veneer and confront stereotypes, taboos, and role reversals. Kelly was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1975. He cut his teeth as a photojournalist, capturing the burgeoning celebrity culture in a city embracing newfound wealth. His voracious appetite for blue skies and sun-drenched panoramas drew him to Barcelona, where he embraced the "street voyeur" within. His quirky spin on daily life and the cultural idiosyncrasies surrounding him quickly became his distinctive signature style. "My aesthetic is fun, colourful, vibrant and sexy.
