About the Item
"Ice-Covered Guardian Dog on Glacier" is a matte-ink print on cotton paper by photojournalist Philip Holsinger. The artist took the photo on an expedition with the Tusheti shepherds in the Republic of Georgia.
Traveling with one of the world's oldest nomadic groups, the Tusheti Shepherds, their herds of sheep and pack of wolf-like guard dogs, Holsinger is the first "outsider" to complete the 155-mile migration from the high desert planes on the border of Azerbaijan, across the Republic of Georgia, and into the treacherous high altitudes of the Caucasus Mountains.
This photo shows a Georgian Mountain dog with its coat frozen with ice crossing a glacier on the summit of the Abano pass during the Spring migration. "Nothing deters these warriors from their purpose," says Holsinger. "They will die of exposure before they will cease doing their work of protecting the flock."
About the Artist:
"I can't stage a photograph. Because it's not real. Life itself has to present that moment. So, I'm just waiting for it."
Philip Holisinger is a photojournalist capturing the conflict, beauty, and soul of the world's most volatile environments. He has traveled the world documenting the aftermath of the Bosnia genocide, the war on drugs in southeast Asia, and the plight of fringe peoples such as the Nicaraguan Miskito Indians.
As a fully immersed, Gonzo-style journalist, Holsinger keeps close ties at street-level in the countries where he works, developing deep assets and relationships. He spent three years living in Cite Soleil, Haiti, documenting the social and ethnographic effects of the government's national development projects. He recently completed his third expedition with the Tusheti Shepherds on their 155-mile migration through Georgia's Caucasus mountains. Holsinger now lives in Tennessee as he continues work on the award-winning "We Are Nashville" project, a vast exploration of the city's identity that began in 2017.
"Ultimately, I don't want to tell anybody anything." says Holsinger, "I want to do my best to be faithful and give them the parts so that they can come experience it with me."
Holsinger works primarily through private contract reporting showcasing his work in mixed-media, immersive exhibitions and original works of journalism.

Dear One Threads A Cocoon - Unique Hand-coloured Print in Walnut frame
Located in London, GB
Hand-coloured portrait of a human larvae bursting out of their cocoon, immobilised in marble.
Representative of a safe and isolating space, the cocoon is both a cage and a shelter. This tale is a
study of transformation, of breaking apart and coming back together as the larvae emerges from
the silken threads.
Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls).
During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical sculpture...
