James Bidgood
One of the quintessential creators of homoerotic imagery, filmmaker and photographer James Bidgood produces unique and instantly recognizable works infused with a vividly colorful sense of fantasy and theatricality. Drawing on his background as a dressmaker, costume designer, and drag performer, Bidgood conjures the exotic world of his photographs from scratch, creating works with a heightened artificiality and high camp sensibility. In Bidgood’s photographs, naked or scantily clad young men, often covered in a glistening sheen of Vaseline, pose in lurid landscapes of the imagination while draped over beds or in fields of flowers and dressed as glittering matadors or pointy-eared fauns. Combining vibrant colors, dramatic lighting, and baroque sets, his photographs bring to life a feverish, dreamlike fantasy world one step removed from reality. He has become a major influence on figures such as David LaChapelle and Pierre et Gilles. Estate represented by CLAMP in New York City.

Please ignore the glare on the glass. Rare, early, signed and dated (verso) 1987 vintage silver gelatin print. this is one of a kind and not editioned according to correspondence I have from his studio. this is one of three. one of them has a label from Triton gallery in NYC (on the others you can see where it was) Image size is 13 x 8.75 inches (33.02 x 22.23 cm.) paper is 14X11 inches
David LaChapelle (born March 11, 1963) is an American commercial photographer, fine-art photographer, music video director, film director, and artist. He is best known for his photography, which often references art history and sometimes conveys social messages. His photographic style has been described as "hyper-real and slyly subversive" and as "kitsch pop surrealism." One 1996 article called him the "Fellini of photography," a phrase that continues to be applied to him. David LaChapelle's photography career began in the 1980's in New York City galleries. After attending the North Carolina School of Arts, he moved to New York where he enrolled at both the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts. With shows at 303 GalleryLaChapelle which also exhibited artists such as Doug Aitken and Karen Kilimnik , Trabia McAffee and others, his work caught the eye of Andy Warhol and the editors of Interview Magazine, who offered him his first professional photography job. LaChapelle's friends during this period included Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat
Working at Interview Magazine, LaChapelle quickly began photographing some of the most famous faces of the times. Before long, he was shooting for the top editorial publications of the world, and creating the most memorable advertising campaigns of a generation. LaChapelle cites a number of artists who have influenced his photography. In a 2009 interview, he mentioned the Baroque painters Andrea Pozzo and Caravaggio as two of his favorites.[23] Critics have noted that LaChapelle's work has been influenced by Salvador Dalí, Jeff Koons, Michelangelo, Cindy Sherman, and Andy Warhol. His striking images have appeared on and in between the covers of magazines such as Italian Vogue, French Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stone and i-D. In his twenty-year career in publishing, he has photographed personalities as diverse as Tupac Shakur, Madonna, Amanda Lepore, Eminem, Philip Johnson, Lance Armstrong...

David Boyce & Manuel Gonzalez multiple exposure, nude, signed by Jack Mitchell
By Jack Mitchell
Located in Senoia, GA
11 x 14" vintage silver gelatin photograph, signed by Jack Mitchell. Comes directly from the Jack Mitchell Archives with a certificate of authenticity. This photograph was from a session for After Dark magazine and was selected and signed by Jack Mitchell as one of his favorites. Jack’s artist statement on his work for the magazine:
“After Dark was a magazine of entertainment, theater and the arts. It was a popular magazine, with a gay slant, enjoyed by many gay men, and some broad minded women and men. As well as (I learned years later) many closeted male youngsters. The magazine was ahead of its time, as advertisers were reluctant to place ads in an essentially gay magazine at that time. Today they swarm like bees to place their own hot ads in gay publications.
I had been photographing on assignment for Dance Magazine well before After Dark was created. Being a friend of William (Bill) Como, the Editor, and being gay, I was called into service, for the life of the publication, to photograph many of the handsome young men and women, who were featured in After Dark.
Needless to say, this was enjoyable work for me, Because, mixed in with the hot-looking young guys and gals sent to my studio were some famed performers like Debbie Reynolds, Giancarlo Giannini, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Natalie Wood, Placido Domingo, Sergio Franco...
