About the Item

Aditya Dicky Singh, Untitled, Infrared photograph on fine-art Hahnemuhle archival paper , 36" x 36" *please note this artwork can be printed at any size so long as the ratio remains the same. We are doing a one-off Edition of 8, irrespective of size Year, 2022 Edition 1/8 Aditya Dicky Singh's images have enthralled many and have given him a following worldwide. Institutions and individuals alike would seek out his knowledge on wildlife and habitats. He lent his expertise to BBC, National Geographic and many very well-known wildlife photographers. Dicky was an active member of a small band of experts, proactively ensuring the health of the Tiger population in Ranthambhore National Park in India where he lived and at the same time eprotecting the survival of the smaller communities whose livelihoods depend on the same land. Through his lens he documented generations of families of Tigers, learning behaviours and understanding their role in the wider context of the Forest. His knowledge was vast, not only of big cats but the other flora and fauna that co-exist in this special place. In photographs taken with an infrared lens, nothing is quite as it seems. Dark palm leaves become pale white, clouds become black and a leopards spots are reversed. Photographing in the often harsh, natural sunlight of India led wildlife photographer Aditya Dicky Singh to seek out different tools and methods of photographing at different times of day. When the light is at its most bright and highest point, mid-day it is impossible to photograph and this is when he was getting some of his best sightings. It’s been an interesting learning curve but the fruits of this labour can now be enjoyed in Dicky’s remarkable set of Infrared photographs showing intimate portraits of both Indian and African wildlife and scenery.

In the classical period, something was considered beautiful because it existed in nature; art was secondary. In the 18th Century, the German philosopher Johann Joachim Winckelmann argued against the idea that art imitates life, believing that qualities superior to nature are found in art, specifically, ideal beauty, and “brain-born images”. Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain. I take pictures in nature, finding shifting, disparate, and beautiful landscapes. I develop my pictures of trees...
