In 1998, wherever you looked, you could see the Chrysler Building. From the vantage point of the Greater East River/ Flushing Bay, Photographer Mitchell Funk captures the Chrysler Building in silhouette. It is defined by strong lighting that increases it's dramatic effect. A passing barge stacked with containers dominates the foreground space. Yet this image is not about a barge stacked with containers. Can a subject be the center or focus, even if it is of a subdued color and set back in the composition?

He has had more than 50 Photography Magazine Covers and has had covers on Newsweek, Fortune, New York Magazine and Life Magazine among others.

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
