The 1957 issue, No. 98, was dedicated to Alberto Giacometti, capturing his existential vision of the human condition at the height of his artistic maturity. During this period, Giacometti’s lithographs paralleled his sculptures in their stark, linear precision and psychological depth. The reduction of form to its essential gestures—isolated, elongated, and often spectral—became a visual metaphor for the fragility of human existence. The Derriere le Miroir issue coincided with Giacometti’s major exhibition at Galerie Maeght, solidifying his relationship with the Maeght family and his lasting influence within postwar European art.
