About the Item
Antoni Tàpies is considered one of the most significant Spanish artists of the 20th century and a leading exponent of European informal art. His work combines matter, signs and symbols, often with a strong spiritual and political value. He used poor materials (sand, marble dust, paper, cloth) and graphic marks to create dense, evocative and tactile surfaces.
The graphic in question shows a raised rectangular shape and around it black graphic signs made with a decisive and spontaneous gesture, typical of Tàpies' language. The composition is made using the etching, aquatint, and carborundum printing technique-a technique that is used to create an embossed matrix that, through pressure, transfers ink onto paper, producing an image with distinctive textures and tones.
The sheet measures 63x77cm and with the frame 83x68x5.5cm. There is a signature on the lower right and on the left is the 80/100 print run.
The state of preservation is very good, showing only slight wear and tear due to age and use. The sheet is fixed at the four vertices on a rigid cardboard panel and has slight three-dimensional deformations.
