About the Item
This artwork titled "Sunrise" c.1980, is an original colors screen print by noted American artist Arthur Secunda, 1927-2022. It is hand signed, titled and numbered 131/200 in white pencil by the artist. The artwork (image) size is 30.5 x 24, sheet size is 37.75 x 30 inches, framed size is 42 x 34.25 inches. Custom framed in original Maple color wood frame, with white backing. it is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
Arthur Secunda was born in New Jersey in 1927. He passed away on August 30th, 2022.
He established a career in Paris, France, and on both the East and West coasts and Arizona. He is a painter, collage artist, sculptor, teacher, and graphic artist. He is especially noted for his richly colored collages and skill with printmaking, having received two grants from the Tamarind Lithography Workshop.
In 1946, he served a year in the Air Force as a staff artist and then attended New York University and the Art Students League where his teachers were Harry Sternberg, Reginald Marsh and Julian Levi. He later continued his education in Paris and Rome, studying sculpture with Ossip Zadkine and painting with Andre L'hote. Secunda spent a year in Mexico working at the Esmeralda Escuela de Pintura y Escultura, where he learned the art of wood carving and woodcut printing.
He has served as Curator of Education at the Santa Barbara Art Museum; Art Editor of the Beverly Hills Times, Founding Editor of Artforum Magazine and radio commentator of Arts of All Times in Santa Barbara.
Secunda has been a teacher at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, the Pasadena Art Museum, the University of California, Los Angeles and at Long Beach State College. His first solo show was at the Galerie Lucien Gout in Montpellier in 1950.

Arthur Secunda is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker, born in 1927, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He had his first one-man show in 1950, at the Galerie Lucien Gout, in Montpellier, France. His works hang in the permanent collections of institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, in New York, the Library of Congress, in Washington, DC, the Chicago Art Institute, in Chicago, the Honolulu Academy of Fine Arts, in Honolulu and the Detroit Art Institute, in Detroit.

About the artist:
Born in Holland, Dutch artist Frans Horbach first visited New York when he was 17 years old, traveling on a cargo ship from Rotterdam, just as his fellow country man Willem de Kooning had done years before. Two years later he left Holland and emigrated to California.
During the years that he lived and worked as a professional artist in America, one of the main sources of artistic influence came from artists belonging to what is now known as the New York school of American lyrical abstract expressionist art - Rothko, Pollock, De Kooning... He was attracted by their ideas, style of work, and more importantly, by their vital energy and uninhibited self-confidence.
Horbach's work also was influenced, more subtely perhaps, by his contact with indigeneous Indian people during his journeys in the American South-West and Mexico. These encounters were a rich source of inspiration - they became integral to a philosophical framework which involved the appreciation of physical space in a poetic and artistic sense.
