About the Item

Iris Eye #11, feels lighter and more architectural than some of the others in the Iris Eye series. The central pale star, with its softened hexagonal geometry, radiates outward like a crystalline bloom or a faint compass rose. Around it, rounded luminous forms cluster like cells or petals, suggesting both biological multiplicity and ornamental repetition. The green undertones behind these ivory shapes make the composition feel rooted in vegetal growth, as though we are looking at an eye refracted through leaves and sunlight. Structurally, the image emphasizes a vertical axis. At the bottom, the darker, chalice-like form appears to cradle the central star, almost as though the whole composition were being offered upward. This vessel-like figure grounds the otherwise airy geometry, introducing a ritualistic presence: an altar, a stem, or even a stylized pupil anchoring the “flower-eye.” Symbolically, this piece leans toward clarity and emergence, and radiates a calm, luminous equilibrium—like vision at dawn, when forms are just becoming visible. It embodies the Iris Eye tendency to merge ocular and floral imagery, but here with an added sense of renewal, as if the act of seeing itself were perpetually blooming. This archival pigment print is printed on Epson Enhanced Matte paper. Image size is 30" x 17" and paper size is 32" x 19". Signed within the image, lower right. Framing is recommended before shipping. All work is shipped flat, not rolled. In this recent work, the artist has focused on the production of abstract painterly images using a variety of digital methods and processes. These new images are at, what he calls, the “Center of Seeing” - closeups of a moment in time and space from the center of his digitally made kaleidoscopic videos. These captured images contain circle, star, or other primal geometric shapes – some resembling mandalas or flowers of a new interior space. Spiritual, psychological, with an emanating quality of light, they are vaguely familiar yet new. Mr. Cruz is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Grant. His first solo show was at White Columns, New York City in 2003. His last solo show “I’ll Take you There” was at the Olympia Project, Bushwick, in 2020. His studio is located in the Flower District in Manhattan.

Her utopia is New York City with its parks, waterfronts, and botanical gardens. Rebecca studied drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture at the Cleveland Institute of Art and moved to New York to work as a textile designer. Rebecca has been exhibiting since 1995 in renown locations including the New York City Leica Gallery. Her photographs can be found in corporate collections including Banana Republic, St. Regis, Marriott and Omni hotels and in hospitals throughout the country. She has photographed gardens...
