Maple wood. Dimensions: 31 x 8 inches.
Housed in original shrink wrapping. Excellent overall condition.
Licensed by Artestar, New York in conjunction with the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. c.2019. Features estate trademark on reverse. From a sold out out of print limited edition of approximately 1,000 pieces.
Further Background:
Originally executed by Basquiat in 1984, “Gold Griot” parodies western fantasies of Africa through a grinning face derived from an African mask. The work was originally set on golden painted planks of wood as a means of illuminating a specific presence of the Griot within African tradition.
