About the Item

Joan Miró Mandarin du Nord (Mandarin North), 1976; Combining elements of the graphic and the organic, Miró creates a lively print instilled with an unexpected sense of contradiction. His trademark bold, black lines set against patches of primary colors lend a graphic sensibility, while, in the center of the composition, we observe two curious, organic forms. Snaking black and red tendrils reach out towards the unknown in a manner reminiscent of jellyfish. These red and black amorphous forms appear as if melding into their surroundings, simultaneously consuming and being consumed by them. The black form, in particular, appears as a creative force, dripping into the lines below it and shaping and molding the figures that dwell within its same surrealist environment.
