1970s Joan Miró lithograph (Miró prints)
By Joan Miró
Located in NEW YORK, NY
1970s Joan Miró Lithograph:
Lithographic insert from the 1979 exhibition catalog published on the occasion of Miro's exhibition at Maeght gallery, Paris.
12.5 x 17.75 inches.
Very good overall vintage condition; minor signs of aging; contains a center fold-line as originally issued. Printed on fine, heavy stock paper.
Unsigned from an edition of unknown.
Catalan artist Joan Miró (Spanish, 1893–1983) spent a few years in technical school as a teenager before he began his artistic career. He trained at Francesc Galí’s Escola d’Art in Barcelona from 1912 to 1915, after which he had his first solo show in Barcelona at the gallery of José Dalmau in 1918. Starting in 1920, Miró divided his time between Montroig, Spain, and Paris, where he commingled with poets such as Max Jacob, and took part in Dada activities. Dalmau organized a solo show for Miró in Paris at the Galerie la Licorne in 1921, and in 1924, Miró joined the Surrealist movement. The consistently Abstract nature of his works, such as The Birth of the World (1925) blended well with the dream-like ambiance of Surrealism.
After a trip to the Netherlands in 1928, Miró created the series Dutch Interiors, in which amorphous forms entered into his work. On October 12, 1929, he married Pilar Juncosa in Palma de Mallorca, and then moved to Paris. During this period, he rebelled against painting, and produced wood reliefs, assemblages, and collages. Although he was living in France, the influence of the Spanish Civil War can be observed in the intense color and strong imagery of Still-life with an Old Shoe (1937). Experimentation continued in Miró’s work until his death in 1983. His wide body of work included ceramics, various prints, drawing, and sculpture. Major projects include the 1958 ceramic murals The Sun and The Moon for the UNESCO building in Paris. He collaborated with Josep Llorens Artigas, and was awarded the Guggenheim Foundation’s Grand Prize. This collaboration can been seen in the artwork called Miró Artigas. Numerous retrospectives of his works have taken place during his lifetime and after.

"La Mer Noire" Figurative Dada Artist Proof
By Marcel Janco
Located in Houston, TX
Post-impressionist style artist proof lithograph of figures. The work is similarly to the style of Paul Gauguin's Tahiti paintings. The work is signed and titled by the artist. It is framed in a gold frame with a white matte.
Dimensions without Frame: H 18.5in x W 24in.
Artist Biography: Marcel Janco was a Romanian and Israeli visual artist, architect and art theorist. He was the co-inventor of Dadaism and a leading exponent of Constructivism in Eastern Europe. In the 1910s, he co-edited, with Ion Vinea and Tristan Tzara, the Romanian art magazine Simbolul. Janco was a practitioner of Art Nouveau, Futurism and Expressionism before contributing his painting and stage design to Tzara's literary Dadaism. He parted with Dada in 1919, when he and painter Hans Arp founded a Constructivist circle, Das Neue Leben.
Reunited with Vinea, he founded Contimporanul, the influential tribune of the Romanian avant-garde, advocating a mix of Constructivism, Futurism and Cubism. At Contimporanul, Janco expounded a "revolutionary" vision of urban planning. He designed some of the most innovative landmarks of downtown Bucharest. He worked in many art forms, including illustration, sculpture and oil painting.
Janco was one of the leading Romanian Jewish...

Curated and organized by Keith Haring, Rain Dance was a 1985 benefit for UNICEF’s African Emergency Relief Fund. Participating artists famously included: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Levan, Fred Brathwaite, Christo, Francesco Clemente, George Condo, Crash, Futura 2000, Jenny Holzer, John Lennon, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Brice Marden, Robert Morris, Yoko Ono, Lee Quiñones, Robert Rauschenberg, Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Tseng Kwong Chi, and Andy Warhol.
_
Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990), a Neo-Pop and Graffiti artist, had a short but prolific career centered on a vision to unite “high art,” urban aesthetics, and public spaces using humorous, irreverent, and poignant works. Born in Pennsylvania, Haring attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh for two years, planning to become a commercial artist. He found this path unsatisfying, and instead chose to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he met fellow artists Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring immersed himself in the culture of the city’s streets and clubs, and, in 1980, began covering the blank billboards on subway station walls with his Subway drawings in chalk.
Haring’s bold public art attracted the attention of several galleries, and, by the early 1980s, he was painting Neo-Pop works and large murals full time. In an effort to make his art widely accessible, Haring opened the Pop Shop in 1986 in downtown New York, selling commercial items adorned with his signature, cartoonish imagery. Haring combined graffiti, hip-hop, and urban aesthetics, frequently depicting animals, figures, commercial icons, sexual imagery, and childlike motifs in pieces that were both playful and concerned with social issues.
His work became increasingly confrontational following his 1987 diagnosis of AIDS. Haring resolved to work harder than ever in his remaining years, creating pieces with a fervent speed and devoting his art to social action in addition to his personal expression. In 1989, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, whose goal is to promote art programs and public spaces for children, and to raise awareness about AIDS.
Haring died on February 16, 1990 in New York at the age of 31. In addition to hundreds of exhibitions held during his lifetime, Haring has been the subject of numerous retrospectives in New York, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Berlin since his death.

Antoni Tàpies lithograph (1960s Tàpies prints)
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Antoni Tàpies Lithograph 1969
Published by: Sala Gaspar as part of the 1969 Tàpies catalog.
Lithograph in colors. 9x7 inches.
Very good overall vintage condition.
Printed signature from an edition of unknown.
Antoni Tàpies:
In his wide-ranging practice, Antoni Tàpies combined rich conceptual concerns with material experimentation and monumental scales. His work was variously informed by early modernists including Paul Klee and Joan Miró and by Art Informel artists, such as Jean Dubuffet, who were his contemporaries. Throughout his paintings, prints, sculptures, and works on paper, Tàpies built a visual language full of thick, impastoed gestural marks and a cosmology of symbols and scripts. His materials ranged from trash and earth to dust and stone, which created a sense of solidity and physicality throughout his oeuvre. Tàpies participated in the Venice Biennale four times and exhibited in cities including Paris, London, Barcelona, Brussels, Berlin, Tokyo, Zürich, and New York. His work has sold for seven figures at auction and belongs in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, Moderna Museet, the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Fondation Beyeler, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate.

Jack Youngerman "Black Flair"
Located in Toronto, Ontario
We are excited to be offering this elegant and evocative silkscreen by one of Caviar20's favorite mid-century American artists: Jack Youngerman.
Youngerman (b. 1926) studied in Paris in the late 1940's on the GI Bill (along with Ellsworth Kelly) and was greatly influenced by the European modernists, notably the cutout shapes of Jean Arp and the saturated colors and stylized florals of Henri Matisse.
Youngerman is known for his graphic compositions that alternate between pure abstraction and stylized depictions of flowers or other elements from nature. Youngerman often synthesizes the best characteristics of Jean Arp or Ellsworth Kelly creating something highly original and confident. Youngerman's work always feels fresh, vibrant and optimistic. Similarly, in this image one can respond to it as a pure abstraction, others see something floral or even the profile of a rooster.
The artist has had a long and prolific career with major museum shows at the Guggenheim and the MoMA amongst others. He showed with Pace for many years.
We are looking forward to seeing a solo presentation of his work at the Frieze art...
