About the Item
Delicately rendered tree branches ornamented with leaves in shades of hunter green, rose, ochre, burnt umber, and steel blue. Thin, wispy lines extend out from solid forms, and spiraling clusters hover in the atmospheric plane. Existing somewhere between figuration and abstraction, Collett’s intricate monoprints are carved using drypoint needle on copper plates that have been stitched together. The artist’s hand is evident in the gestural and rhythmic mark making featured in the work.

While exhibiting throughout North America, Collett has also participated in residencies at the Sanbao Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China and the FULE International Ceramic Art Museum, Fuping, China. Working professionally since 2003, Collett maintains studio in Toronto where she creates large-scale clay sculpture and prints. Her ceramic work employs paper clay and nichrome wire substrate. Her monoprints are made from plates of stitched industrial-grade copper.

Susan Collett
Susan Collett studied printmaking and ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She is a past winner of the Winifred Shantz Award and an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics as well as the Royal Academy of the Arts. While exhibiting throughout North America, Collett has also participated in several residencies, including the Sanbao Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China, 2003 and Fuping, China, 2007. She has had several solo public exhibitions, and her work is in a number of public and private collections.
