About the Item

Victor Vasarely Granat (Garnet) Negatif, 1967 3-D color painted and carved wood relief Hand signed in black ink on the Denise Rene label on the back (see photos), Edition 8/50 Catalogue Raisonne: Benavides II, 1885 Frame included Hand signed in ink by Victor Vasarely on the label on back, and stamp numbered 8 of 50. (see photos) Published by Editions Denise Rene, Paris (with label verso) Gorgeous, bright color painted wood multiple relief, which would look beautiful in any home or office; a must have for Vasarely collectors, Op Art fans, collectors of geometric abstraction, and lovers of all things from the 1960s. The title "Granat" means both Garnet (the gemstone) and Pomegranate (the fruit) depending on which language, and it refers to the gorgeous rich garnet colored painted wood elements. Granat (negatif) was created in the 1960s - one of the most influential eras in the history of Op Art and in Vasarely's career. This work was published by the prestigious Galerie Denise Rene in Paris, the artist's longtime dealer, and it bears the original Denise Rene label on the verso. (Denise Rene would later go on to open a gallery in New York City). The original work has been framed in a museum quality white wood outer frame, which adds to the exquisite aesthetic, with the original labels are preserved on the back. Richard Anuszkiewicz Soft Satellite Red, 1981 Silkscreen on wove paper Signed, dated and numbered 53 from the edition of 100 in pencil by the artist on the front. Bears label from Metzenbaum campaign on back of frame Vintage metal period frame included Terrific 1980s Op Art silkscreen, pencil signed and numbered from the limited edition of only 100. This work is framed in its original vintage frame, and bears the label from the campaign for Metzenbaum for Senator - the longtime Democratic Senator from the state of Ohio, along with a biographical blurb on the artist. Don't forget that Anuszkiewicz studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art in the 1950s before studying with Albers at Yale - so it is not surprising that he would contribute this work several decades later to support a liberal politician from Ohio - where he once studied. (Anuszkiewicz was born in Eerie Pennsylvania). Measurements: Framed: 36 x 36 x 0.5 inches Artwork: 35 x 35 inches Provenance: Originally sold to raise funds for Senator Metzenbaum's campaign. Very good; the work is held in its original 1980s vintage frame...
