Andy Warhol Musee d’Art Moderne catalog (Warhol Cow)
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Andy Warhol Paris, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 1970: Rare original Andy Warhol exhibition catalog featuring a Warhol Pink Cow cover. Published on the occasion of the Warhol solo show at the MAM, Paris, Dec. 16, 1970 - Jan. 14, 1971. A must have rare vintage Andy Warhol Cows collectible. 1st edition; 1970. Single sheet folded, twelve-page accordion style booklet. Text by Alfred Pacquement (French). Exhibition checklist found within. Reverse features a candid, black and white portrait of Warhol. Medium: Offset printed Exhibition Catalog. Dimensions: Folded 7.75 × 10.5 inches; Unfolded: 7.75 x 47 inches. Condition: Very good overall vintage condition; hand written notations to interior first page. Unsigned from edition of unknown. Further Background: Andy Warhol was inspired to by art dealer Ivan Karp to create his Cows in the 1960s. Warhol’s printer Gerard Malanga chose the photograph of the cow, however it was Warhol’s unique pop art style that made the final product so interested. He chose a bold color scheme of bright pink on yellow, which turned the pastoral animal into an amusing and oddly exciting subject matter. Warhol then printed the electrifying Cow image on wallpaper, introducing this process to his creative production. In Warhol’s classic mode of repetition, every inch of the walls were covered with hot pink and yellow Cows. Castelli was so moved by the show, that he had professionals install the wallpaper so that the guests could experience Andy Warhol’s vision. _ Obsessed with celebrity, consumer culture, and mechanical reproduction, Pop Art king, Andy Warhol created some of the 20th century’s most iconic images. Warhol was widely influenced by popular & consumer culture, with this being evident in some of his most famous works: 32 Campbell's soup cans, Brillo pad box sculptures, and portraits of Marilyn Monroe & Mick Jagger, for example. Rejecting the standard painting and sculpting modes of his era, Warhol embraced silk-screen printmaking to achieve his characteristic hard edges and flat areas of color. The artist mentored Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and continues to influence contemporary art around the world: His most bold successors include Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, and Jeff Koons. Warhol has been the subject of exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, and Centre Pompidou, among other institutions. Related Categories Warhol prints. (創作版画 Mid-Century Japanese Coloured Woodblock Print. Ploughing the Fields.
Located in Cotignac, FR
Mid-Century coloured woodblock print of 'ploughing the fields' by 20th century Japanese artist Ini Kumo. The print is hand-signed in pencil, dated 1966 and numbered 130/700 to the bottom right and presented under glass in a black wooden frame. A beautiful woodblock printed image of a Japanese farmer in traditional attire ploughing the land with his ox. It is early evening and as the sun goes down it casts long shadows in front of the two figures. Perhaps the farmer is on his way back to the houses grouped in the distance already in shadow. The artist has carefully picked out areas of vibrant green and blue to give energy and colour to the image which contrast against the black of the ox. A thoroughly enchanting image. Ini Kumo is a recognised Sõsaku-hanga artist. His work is included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Sōsaku-hanga (創作版画, "creative prints") was an art movement of woodblock printing which was conceived in early 20th-century Japan. It stressed the artist as the sole creator motivated by a desire for self-expression, and advocated principles of art that is "self-drawn" (自画 jiga), "self-carved" (自刻 jikoku) and "self-printed" (自摺 jizuri). As opposed to the parallel shin-hanga ("new prints") movement that maintained the traditional ukiyo-e collaborative system where the artist, carver, printer, and publisher engaged in division of labor. The birth of the sōsaku-hanga movement was signaled by Kanae Yamamoto...

"Coyote Scratching His Fleas..." - Woodblock Print
By Daniel Stolpe
Located in Soquel, CA
Vibrant print of a coyote by Daniel Stolpe (American, 1939-2018). Titled, numbered ("Presentation Proof"), signed and dated along bottom edge. Presented in a black frame with a double mat. Sheet on verso with information about the piece, stating that only 5 Presentation Proofs were created, making this piece 1 of 5. Paper size: 24"H x 28"W. (2018) Master artist and Native Images lithographer Dan "Coyote" Stolpe slipped out of his non-functioning body, and is running free at last and howling in the hills. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dan's father introduced him to Native American teachers of Art and Culture through the Woodcraft Rangers, who influenced Dan for the rest of his life. "Everything was patterned after a tribal structure," Stolpe said. We learned about Indian life and lore and we had Indian guys teach us how to make Indian costumes and about Indian dance and drums. That's what got me interested." Dan made his first drum when he was 14, and he was quietly playing that same drum during his final days of life. Stolpe attended LA Co. Art Institute (OTIS) on scholarship until 1962, when he dropped out to Apprentice with artist Don La Viere Turner in Glendora, and then with Master Printer Joe Funk in Venice until 1966. Commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute, he moved to Washington DC to illustrate extinct birds...

1830's Hand-colored Lithograph of a Ground Squirrel
Located in Soquel, CA
Wonderfully preserved hand-colored 1830's lithograph "Ground Squirrel" by Thomas Doughty (American, 1793 - 1856), circa 1830. From "The Cabinet of Natural History and American Rural Sports." Phila: J.&T. Doughty, 1830-32. Sold previously by Bland Gallery, Early 20th century East Side gallery specializing in miniatures. Presented in frame with new acid-free mat under plexiglass. Image size: 7.25"H x 8.75"W. Doughty’s short-lived magazine “The Cabinet of Natural History and American Rural Sports” is an important imprint in the history of American printing. It contained the first colored sporting prints made in America. Issued in monthly parts and published from the end of 1830 until the spring of 1834, “The Cabinet” featured articles on hunting, detailed descriptions of newly discovered flora and fauna, and some of the finest examples of early American hand-colored lithography. It was originally the work of the Doughty brothers, Thomas and John, with virtually all of the plates being the work of Thomas, who also founded the Hudson River School. But, by the spring of 1832, the partnership had broken up and Thomas had moved to Boston. An abbreviated third volume lacked Thomas’ touch. Printed by Childs & Inman, the partnership between Philadelphia engraver and lithographer Cephas G. Childs and New York portrait...

Coffee + Cigarettes, Lithograph on Newsprint Grey Somerset Signed Edition of 10
Located in New York, NY
This is a super rare and imaginative print - LAST ONE - from the edition of only 10  (TEN) - and it makes an amazing gift!  Paul Leibow Coffee + Cigarettes, 2019 Lithograph on Newsprint Grey Somerset Velvet Printed at Tamarind Institute. Hand printed by Elena Carrasco under the supervision of Master Printer Brandon Gunn Pencil signed and numbered lower right from the edition of only 10 Bears Tamarind Institute chop mark lower left Accompanied by copy of detailed Tamarind documentation sheet Measurements: 28.25" (vertical) x 22" (horizontal) Unframed Critic Tris Mccall writes in a recent review: "Felix the Cat is older than Mickey. He was created over a century ago, and he's been fading in plain view ever since sound was added to motion pictures. But in his Gilded Age prime, Felix was incredibly popular: famous enough to leave a burn mark in his image on the collective imagination. The spirit of the Cat retains enough psychic power to guide the hand of at least one contemporary artist - painter and sculptor Paul Leibow... This playful, irreverent work uses the figure of Felix, or what's left of him, to comment on sexuality, decay and reassembly, mechanical reproduction and corporate branding, and the ubiquity and ambiguity of the commercialized image..." Lithograph with image concept invention of a non existent character: Feel licks ears over ads of vintage comics, creating a unique abstract work, including ghosted figures and cigarettes and coffee falling from an imagined earthquake. The attempt was to use a series from vintage characters that inform the piece, with a body inside the Feel Licks cat face structure. Includes a brain W-ray with lamb faces as a surreal interplay. 6-color print, derived from the artist Mark Rothko in a blend roll or orange and red hue. Limited edition print, signed recto from the edition of only 10 PAUL LEIBOW BIOGRAPHY Paul Leibow works in painting, sculpture, mixed media, and film. A documentary art video about his archival process was selected for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts (a program for art on film). Over his art career, his work has been selected for art books and exhibitions by curators from the Whitney Museum and Met. Leibow has created artworks for recording artist Bruce Springsteen for his world tour, including books, and branded icons/logos utilized for his concerts. 2019 awarded an art residency at Tamarind Institute New Mexico, with two editions archived in the New Mexico Art Museum (UNM). 2020 artworks featured in ArtMaze Magazine’s Winter Issue 16.
