About the Item

PANTO DAME is a hand drawn, limited edition lithograph created in 1987 by the well known and loved British artist and humorist, Beryl Cook(1926-2008). PANTO DAME hand proofed and printed in bright vivid colors of blue, green, yellow, red, brown, black inks on archival Arches paper, 100% acid free. In this amusing depiction, PANTO DAME presents a lighthearted, comical theatric scene of a woman dancing before a laughing audience totally entertained by her bawdy performance. PANTO DAME thrills the theater crowd as she flashes her patriotic red, white, and blue British Union Jack bloomers worn beneath her ruffled, intense blue dress accentuated with green and black striped tights and pointy red boots. UNSIGNED Printers Proof aside from the edition of 300, embossed with printers chop mark on lower corner, stamped legend on verso, from the master printers private collection Print size 27 x 21 inches, unframed, full bleed image, no white margins, excellent condition. Year published - 1987 Printer - J K Fine Art Editions Co. NY Beryl Cook, (England 1926-2008), Naif artist, self-taught, Beryl Cook creates her works from daily life, funny situations and her extensive travels. The figures on her pictures and situations are so human, that it is impossible to resist the underlying humor of her painting and the viewer necessarily draws a smile. Beryl Cook's unique artistic humor documented familiar social situations like girls night out, clubbing or shopping, men in the pub, at a strip club or at the market capturing "moments of social history, portrayed with a playful streak of naughtiness". Beryl Cook has become one of the most popular and best loved of British artists. The color, wit, vulgarity and sheer fun of her subjects have caught the imaginations of Britons and Americans alike. She once said "I love to see people enjoy the joy, the animation and fun. That is my true inspiration
