O is for Otter is a limited edition animal print by Clare Halifax. An Alphabet series using animals in their natural habitats to create a patterned background to the letter. O is for Otter is a 3 colour screen print hand printed by the artist onto somerset satin 300gms with deckle edge.
The process involved in producing a print starts with an observational pen drawing of the subject being portrayed. Once this image is finished, it is then scanned at a high resolution and taken into photoshop. Here Clare will produce the different colours featured in the print through a series of layers with the any patterns that are presented being created especially for the piece. Once all the layers are achieved the next stage is producing the screen print. Each layer of colour is exposed onto a silkscreen by using a photo sensitive emulsion, creating a stencil on the screen. Using a screen printing bed that secures the screen in place, each colour is printed by pushing ink through the screen and registering it in the appropriate place, layering each layer until the final finished outcome seen here.
Clare Halifax graduated from Loughborough University with a BA hons in Printed Textile Design. This was followed by an MA in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking from UWE which saw her work develop into Limited Edition Prints. Focusing on cityscapes, landscapes, botanicals and animals. Within each piece of work, design, pattern and colour, play an important part, adding depth and decoration to create a unique overall effect. Clients have included V and A Museum, ‘Coast’ Magazine, Liberty’s, Tate Online, Farrow and Ball, John Lewis and the Berkley Group. Clare currently resides in London where she continues to be influenced by her everyday environment.

Clare Halifax
Clare Halifax, artist, joins Wychwood Art selling art online and in their art gallery in Deddington. Clare Halifax is offering exclusive Cotswold screen prints with Wychwood Art as well as scenes of London and Oxford. Clare Halifax graduated from the University of Loughborough in 2000 with a BA Hons in Printed Textile design and went on to sell her work internationally to the fashion and interior markets. In 2009 Clare Halifax completed an MA in Multi-disiciplinary printmaking at the University of the West of England, which saw her work develop into the production of limited edition prints and ceramic pieces. Having grown up in the South West of England, the inspiration for Clare’s work comes from the buildings that surrounded her and nostalgic reminisces of places and items of interest. Within each image, design, pattern and colour plays an important part, adding depth and decoration to build an aesthetically pleasing overall effect. Clare Halifax currently resides in London where she continues to be influenced by her everyday environment.

ARTIST BIO: Originally from the North East of England, Gavin graduated in Fine art in 2000, and has been building his portfolio as an artist specialising in painting and screen printing - often combining the two, which helps communicate his chosen narrative. Gavin uses both vivid colours and expressive strokes to create engaging and lively pieces - his recent painting series ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ used the fluidity and movement of the paint to convey how an environment can effect ones state of thinking. Alongside his painting, Gavin is an established screen-printer exhibiting at many galleries across the U.K. and with new clients in New York his international profile is starting to expand. A regular at the Affordable Arts Fair, Gavin was one of 20 artists chosen to work alongside Film Four for an exhibition at Somerset House. His screen-prints often depict colourful, nostalgic images. Iconic designs which are humorous ornamentation and invite an opening for conversation. Gavin takes an original painting and creates many separate layers of half tones to screen-print by hand the final piece. Using this method he captures many textures and depths of colour within a piece of work. He recently designed and created a piece of work for the charity Help Refugee's 'Choose Love' campaign in conjunction with Printclub and the celebrated designer Katharine Hamnett, highlighting the current plight of refugees.
