Colored lithograph on ivory colored paper, with pourchoir details.
Beautiful satiric illustration by the French draftsman and caricaturist Clément Pruche (1811-1890). Plate n. 64, from the series "Actualités", Bauger, Paris. Signed on plate on lower-left margin on the wall.
With the amusing printed capture on lower margin: "Peuple d'Albion!! nous sommes infiniment touchés de l'accueil bienviellant! que. qui. enfin voilà! mais tout cela n'est pas une raison pour nous embêter à l'exces! je vous ai déjà dit que vous étiez très admirateurs du talent! ainsi, payez! et restez tranquille! sans, quoi il y a des gens qui penseront que tout cet enthousiasme là n'est qu'une charge!!".
In very good condition, with some light stains on margins. Including passepartput, dim: cm 49 x 34.

Clément Pruche
Clément Pruche was born on April 6, 1811 in Paris. He studied under the French master Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Pruche began publishing caricatures in 1831 for leading periodicals such as Le Charivari and La Caricature, during the Golden Age of French satirical art. He began exhibiting his work at the Paris Salons in 1834 and was an annual participant there until 1870. In 1844, a Parisian publisher published Voyage au Pays de Bonheur, a work including thirty of Pruche's lithographs. Pruche's works are held in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and Kemper Art Museum, among others. Pruche died on October 6, 1890, in Paris.
