About the Item

En Route is an original lithograph on paper realized by Henry de Groux. Hand-signed by the artist on the lower right margin. Good conditions except for being aged and some tears along the margins. The artwork represents a chaotic scene through confident strokes and perfect hatchings. Henry de Groux ( 1866 - 1930) was a Belgian Symbolist painter, sculptor and lithographer. As a Symbolist, the artist used the traditions of religious painting, in his own way interpreting the plots and relating them to modernity. His 1889 painting Christ aux Outrages, widely described as his masterwork, depicted Jesus being attacked by a mob. Later in life, he produced many works depicting the horrors of the First World War.

Nicolas Toussaint Charlet (20 December 1792 – 30 October 1845) was a French painter and printmaker, more especially of military subjects. It was only towards 1822, however, that he began to be successful in a professional sense. Lithographs (about 2000 altogether), watercolours, sepia drawings, numerous oil sketches, and a few etchings followed one another rapidly. Later in his life there were also three exhibited oil pictures...
