About the Artist: Inspired by the Fauvist masters, Picot works in a Post-Impressionist manner reducing flowers, trees, houses and figures to their essential forms. All of his work is imbued with the same bright and cheerful character, and is instantly identifiable. Since 1947 he has exhibited in over 50 one-person shows throughout the world, including exhibitions in the United States, Belgium, Norway and Australia. Since 1956, Jean Claude Picot has been a full-time professional artist. He was greatly influenced by the works of the Fauvist masters Vlaminck, Derain and Matisse. These artists, whose exuberant canvases created great attention in the first decade of the 20th century due to their revolutionary use of color, texture and abstract form, have inspired Picot for decades and one finds many similar characteristics in his works. He developed a unique style that recalls a Post-Impressionist application of color combined with the expressive qualities of line. The world of his art is often one of a happy reflection on relaxation, and personal “joie de vivre.” Picot captures the animation, romance and essence of the landscape as his favored subject, although he also creates still-life, cityscapes, markets, and festival scenes. His work abounds with natural beauty and breathtaking views charged with the unique light of the Mediterranean. Picot lives a part of the year in the south of France, and often draws on the Cote d’Azur—its visitors, its beaches and its boat-filled harbors. Picot actively works in many media – oil, acrylic, watercolor, etching, ceramic and most recently, serigraphy and embellished serigraphy, which beautifully capture his vibrant color and painterly technique. His work is a favorite of collectors internationally, and is represented in prestigious collections worldwide. In reviews of Picot’s most recent solo shows in Paris, Bordeaux and Oslo, critics cited the affinities between the masters of the turn-of-the century Impressionism and early Twentieth Century Fauvism and the 61-year-old French artist, thus beginning to place his work in the art history of important French landscape painters. Today in the 21st Century, Picot continues the tradition of important French landscape painters. Embellished Prints & Giclee: The word “embellish” as defined by Webster is “to make beautiful by ornamentation, to adorn or to add fanciful details to.” When we’re talking about art on canvas, embellishing refers to painting over areas of the image to enhance color and/or to add brush strokes to the finished work. Embellishing techniques are as unique as the artists themselves – some use What is hand embellishing? oil paints while others use clear gesso, some have a great deal of texture while others apply a thin layer of paint. In either case, the canvas has more texture and dimension when it is embellished and looks more like an original. And both serigraphs and giclees can be embellished. Since embellished canvases involve greater involvement on the part of the artist than an unembellished one, art lovers can get a step closer to an original at a fraction of the cost. Embellished editions are usually considerably smaller than the regular edition. The late artist, Pino, for example, had 295 in his regular edition for his limited edition giclees and only 95 in his embellished edition. The more limited supply and increased demand make for a more collectible piece of art. Hand Embellished Giclees are generally more expensive than a print, and is the closest thing one can get to an original without paying huge multiples in price.

Measures 16" x 16" image, frame measures 24-1/8" x 24-1/8" Simon Bull (born in March 1958) is an English-born artist living in America. Early years and education. Simon Bull was born in Bedfordshire, England. The second of four children. His father, Ian Bull served as an officer in the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department of the British Army. Ian’s extensive military postings stationed the family around the world in Guyana, Hong Kong, Germany, and Northern Ireland. Simon went to boarding school in Yorkshire, attending Ripon Cathedral Choir School from 1965 to 1969 and in Surrey, at the Royal Russell School from 1969 to 1976. In 1976 he took a one-year Foundation course at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design and went on to graduate in 1980 from Leeds Polytechnic with a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art. He studied printmaking and Fine Art under Norman Webster and Norman Ackroyd RA. His time at Leeds was marked by his interest in and study of the masters, such as Henri Fantin-Latour, Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin, and Rembrandt; he wrote his dissertation on watercolorist John Sell Cotman. In his graduating year he exhibited his etching Jackie at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and his works were acquired by Leeds City Art Gallery. His art is currently represented exclusively, by his own company Simon Bull Studios of Carmel CA and MEUSE gallery on Carmel’s Ocean Avenue. Simon Bull Studios contracts with and supplies a network of fine art galleries around the world including Cutter & Cutter Fine Art, Park West Gallery and others. He has been represented in the UK by, London Contemporary Art and DeMontfort Fine Art; as well as in the USA with Media Arts Group. His worldwide licensing agent is Art Brands Group. In 2007 he was invited to create a series of paintings that celebrated the life of Muhammad Ali. Many of these works are now on permanent display in the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He has spoken on behalf of the Muhammad Ali Center at the Vancouver Film Festival for the premiere of the movie Facing Ali.
