Jean Lepautre
The French draftsman and engraver with a long career, Jean Lepautre produced nearly 1500 etchings. Appointed as Ordinary Engraver of King Louis XIV in 1667, he was received at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1677. His recognition by Colbert earned him the right to engrave boards of rare and precious quality for the King's Cabinet. Today we can remember of his production, masterpieces as the whole Grotto of Versailles, the Festival has given at Versailles in 1668, the Entertainment given by the King in 1674, in addition to the wide graphic production representing basins, statues and vases of the Versailles Park, preserved at the Official Chalcography of the Louvre.
