About the Item

Josh Agle (born August 31, 1962) is an American artist, better known by the nickname Shag. Agle's nickname is derived from the last two letters of his first name, and the first two letters of his last name. He had his first solo gallery exhibition in 1997, and his first New York gallery show in 2002. With a distinct style influenced by mid-century modern design, Agle paints with a keen attention to figure and form. Depicting stylized subjects in affluent settings he invites viewers into a playful yet satirical world, confronting themes of fame, youth, revelry and excess. With a paradoxical central narrative influenced by Biblical stories, All My Bones epitomizes the artist’s retro aesthetic and expands upon his sophisticated iconography. Rendered with vividly saturated colors, crisp shapes and fluid line work, Agle’s works sardonically look at consumption and consumerism. His extravagant subjects are surrounded by lavish architecture, fashion and furnishings but are apathetic toward their opulence, predominately portrayed as expressionless and emotionally detached. There was an edition of 125 with 25 AP"s. This is No 2/25 of the Artists proofs. THIS PIECE IS UNFRAMED

Pleased to Meet You Again
Located in North Adams, MA
Silkscreen in 9 colors on 320 gram Coventry Rag Dimensions: 29" x 29" Signed by the Artists in pencil An edition of 75 John “CRASH” Matos and Eric Orr met for the first time as high school students. Although the exact location is unclear, both agree that it would have been at either Fashion Moda or the Writers’ Bench at 149th Street and Grand Concourse. Founded by Stefan Eins in 1978, Fashion Moda began as a “cultural concept” whose principles revolved around the fact that art can be made by anyone, anywhere and art should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Located in the South Bronx, Fashion Moda embraced new talent and encouraged creative production across all mediums. The gallery has been credited as a major force behind the recognition of graffiti writing as an art form and it played a pivotal role in a community where Hip Hop was rapidly emerging. CRASH was only 19 years old when he curated “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion Moda and his varied experiences at the gallery would later inspire his founding of WALLWORKS. The 149th Street Writers’ Bench, located at the back of the uptown...
