Markus Lüpertz
Markus Lüpertz (b. 1941, Liberec, Czechoslovakia) is a German painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his association with Neo-Expressionism and post-war German art. He emerged as a key figure during the 1960s and 70s, developing a bold, expressive style marked by gestural abstraction, vivid colors, and symbolic, often mythological, imagery. Lüpertz’s work often reflects themes of history, identity, and the re-examination of German cultural motifs, blending figurative and abstract elements.
