About the Item

Lithograph and stencil on vélin pur chiffon d'Arches paper. Inscription: Unsigned and unnumbered, as issued. Good condition; unframed. Notes: From the folio, Faunes et Flore d'Antibes, 1960. Published by Au Pont des Arts, Paris; printed by Atelier Daniel Jacomet, Paris, 1960. Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), This album presents, in the first print run, in the original format, the eleven paintings on paper by Pablo Picasso, from the series "La Joie de Vivre", dated: Antibes, August-September, 1946. These paintings are the property of the artist. They are exhibited at the Palais Grimaldi, in Antibes. The color frontispiece, dated 1959, was specially designed by Picasso for this collection. The work was carried out in close collaboration with the Master who followed the printing, corrected the tests, and signed the vouchers. The boards were executed by Daniel Jacomet. The paper is vélin pur chiffon d'Arches. Typography, in Europe, is by Fequet et Baudier. The work was established by Pierre-André Weill. Justification of the draw: One hundred and seventy-five examples numbered in black I to 175; examples I to 25 include, in addition to the eleven plates and the frontispiece, a lithograph in ten colors drawn by Mourlot Frères from an unpublished drawing by Picasso: "L'Atelier", dated 1958 and signed. One hundred and twenty-five examples numbered in red I to 125–These examples constitute the American edition. They are reserved for the New York Graphic Society. The examples I to 25 include the lithograph. Fifty non-commercial examples marked H.C. I to 50. (Exclusivité en Italie: Silvana Editoriale d'Arte.) © 1960 in France by Au Pont des Arts & S.P.A.D.E.M. Paris. Printed in France. PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) Spanish painter and sculptor is one of the most recognized figures of twentieth century art. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, he created thousands of works using all kinds of mediums. He changed art more profoundly than any other artist of his time. First famous for pioneering cubism, Picasso continued to develop his art with a pace and vitality comparable to the accelerated technological and cultural changes of the twentieth century. Each change embodied a radical idea, and might be said that Picasso lived several artistic lifetimes.
