John Elwes, the Remarkable Miser, 1714-1789. Member of Parliament for Berkshire, famous eccentric and miser. Heir to several fortunes and miserly relatives. Reputedly the model for Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Lithograph after a stipple engraving by R.
