Keith Haring Pop Shop Skateboard Deck circa early/mid 1990s:
In the mid 1980s New York City Skateboards Inc. negotiated a contract with Haring to design and license skateboard images. Approximately 200 of these skateboards were produced & sold at Haring’s Pop Shop. Further details:

Minor shelf-wear; in otherwise good to very good overall vintage condition with bright, well-preserved colors as pictured; appears unused.
Printed signature from an edition of approximately 200 (unnumbered).
Published by New York City Skateboards Inc., c.19994. A vintage original piece that was not reissued in later years.

Keith Haring’s (1958-1990) iconic use of bold lines, vivid colors and cartoonish figures create a visual language that expresses strong messages of life, unity, love, sex and war. At age 19 Haring moved to New York to study at the School of Visual Arts. However, he first achieved public attention and gained notoriety with his infamous chalk drawings in the subways of New York City. In 1989, the artist established the Keith Haring Foundation which provides funding to AIDS organizations and children’s programs.
Keith Haring Pop Shop:
In 1986, New York artist Keith Haring opened the Pop Shop in downtown Manhattan. Haring saw the Pop Shop as an extension of his work, a fun boutique where his art could be accessible to everyone. For nearly twenty years, the shop continued to be a downtown attraction with floor-to-ceiling murals and affordable clothing and gift items all featuring Keith Haring's unique icons. In September, 2005, the Pop Shop finally closed its doors to the public. Keith Haring's work continues to be displayed around the world at galleries and museums and in public spaces.

Keith Haring
Keith Haring began experimenting with his bold, graphic lines and cartoon-inspired figures on the walls of New York City subway stations in the early 1980s. He called them his “laboratory,” places to develop a radical new aesthetic based on an ideology of creating truly democratic public art.
Haring’s paintings, prints and murals address the universal themes of death, love and sex, as well as contemporary issues he experienced personally, like the crack-cocaine and AIDS epidemics. They derive much of their impact from the powerful contrast between these serious subjects and the joyful, vibrant pictographic language he uses to express them, full of dancing figures, babies, barking dogs, hearts and rhythmic lines, as well as references to pop culture.
To make his art even more accessible, in 1986, Haring opened the Pop Shop in Soho. In a foreshadowing of today’s intermingling of art and fashion, the shop sold merchandise and novelty items featuring imagery by Haring and contemporaries like Kenny Scharf and Jean-Michel Basquiat. While his works sometimes included text, for the most part, he chose to communicate through drawing.
“Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times,” Haring once declared. “It lives through magic.”
