Pay Nothing
Located in London, GB
Kenny Schachter "Pay Nothing". Archival digital print on wove paper. Published in 2020. Edition of 60.
Hand signed and numbered by the artist, verso.
‘At the height of Covid, various activist groups arose to protect artists and others from unlawful evictions for non-payment of rent due to their lack of earning capacity by an economy that all but ground to a halt—other than for the multinationals that always seem to prosper in times of crisis. One such grassroots advocacy initiative in April of 2020, was CANTPAYMAY which I spotted on artist Nicole Eisenman’s Instagram feed by way of a poster she created which proclaimed:
“RENT STRIKE! STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THOUSANDS OF NEW YORKERS ON RENT STRIKE DURING #CANTPAYMAY. WITH MILLIONS OF NEW YORKERS OUT OF WORK, WE CAN AND MUST #CANCELRENT. SIGN THE RENT STRIKE PLEDGE TO JOIN THE MOVEMENT!”
Pay Nothing is an appropriation of Ed Ruscha’s 2003 painting Pay Nothing Until April; though Ruscha attempts to disclaim meaning in his text works, it clearly references the loaded notion of having to pay-up in April, which is when both State and Federal taxes are owed across the country, as all US taxpayers are only painfully all too aware.
“Says Ruscha: ‘I’m empty headed in many ways, and don’t know why I follow what I follow. Like most people, I operate on an automatic mode, and everything is an involuntary reflex. Logic flies out of the window when you’re making a picture, at least it does with me. And thank God it does.’” @tate
In the context of the Covid pandemic, Pay Nothing signifies the fact that if a population is deprived of the means to earn a living, we still must eat and have a roof over our heads to feed and shelter ourselves and families. For, if we don’t have the ready capacity to provide, as Malcom X...

GARDEN ROMANCE Signed Lithograph, Black Couple Portrait, Lovers, Flower Garden
By James Demark
Located in Union City, NJ
GARDEN ROMANCE by the artist James Denmark is an original hand drawn, limited edition lithograph(not a photo reproduction or digital print) printed on archival Somerset paper using traditional hand lithography techniques. GARDEN ROMANCE is one of Denmark's expressive, colorful collage compositions of everyday African American life - a lovely flower garden scene featuring a romantic black couple, the woman seated amid the blossoming plants wearing a green and yellow paisley print dress and head wrap; her standing male companion with flower in hand, dressed in blue denim jeans, and pastel color patchwork print shirt. Vivid coloration, watercolor patterns, and collage effect textures captivate the eye with visual variety in a striking palette of blues, greens, white, red, orange, magenta, touches of yellow, lavender and dark black - a fine example of the intricacies of hand lithography!
Print size - 32 x 21.25 in., unframed, mint condition, pencil signed and numbered by James Denmark
Edition size - 250, plus proofs
Year published - 1996
Printer - JK Fine Art Editions Co. NJ

The Great (Unknown Bust)
Located in Brooklyn, NY
This striking photograph captures the timeless essence of a Roman marble bust, portraying a handsome male leader with thoughtful details. The subject, seemingly untouched by the passage of centuries, emerges from the stone with a head of naturally falling curly hair. The face, in profile, emanates strength and resilience as the leader gazes steadfastly into the distance.
Symbolic of the Roman Empire's grandeur, the bust stands as a testament to the strength and authority that characterized that ancient civilization. As the Roman Empire eventually faced the challenges leading to its fall, this marble bust endures as a silent witness to the ebb and flow of history.
Marble, known for its enduring nature, further enhances the longevity of this artistic documentation. The photograph captures not just a static representation of a bygone era but a dynamic convergence of time, where the resilience of the stone mirrors the enduring legacy of the Roman Empire. This work is a photographic digital print on plexiglass cut to the form of the bust.

"Fisherman's Wharf - San Francisco" Multi Layer Screen Print on Paper - Signed
Rare and bold Screen Print (Silk Screen) of Fisherman's Wharf 1957 by Gordon Cope (American, 1906-1999). Several boats are docked at Fisherman's Wharf, with buildings directly behind them. In the distance, the hills of San Francisco can be seen meeting a pale blue sky. Of particular note is the skillful representation of the reflections of the boats in the water, and the clever use of grey paper as negative space.
Numbered and titled in pencil in the lower left corner "22/100 Fisherman's Wharf - San Francisco"
Hand signed and dated in pencil in the lower right corner "Gordon Cope 1957"
Titled, signed, and dated "in plate"
Presented in a silver colored frame with a double mat.
Frame size: 22.5"H x 27"W
Image size: 15"H x 20"W
Gordon N. Cope (American, 1906-1999) was an educator and painter. Trained in Utah and France, he exhibited his landscape paintings and portraits in the United States and Europe, and he believed music was related to painting.
Cope was born on May 14, 1906, in Salt Lake City. He was trained by Utahn artists LeConte Stewart and Lawrence Squires, and at the Académie Julian in Paris, France in 1928. He also studied singing at the Opéra-Comique.
Cope taught art at Latter-day Saints University, and he served as the chair of its Department of Art in 1930–1931. He taught at the Mountain School of Art from 1932 to 1938, and he was the director of the Art Barn School in Salt Lake City in 1939–1941. Cope painted Utahn landscapes as well as a portrait of Henry H. Blood, who served as the seventh governor of Utah from 1933 to 1941. Cope exhibited his work in the United States and Europe. According to the Deseret News, Cope "felt that music and painting are closely interrelated, and that the study of one form may be used to complement the appreciation and understanding of the other."
Cope died on June 10, 1999, in San Francisco, California.
Gordon Nicholson Cope studied with well-known Utah artists A.B. Wright and LeConte Stewart, and became recognized as a major Utah artist of the Great Depression. Cope was born in Salt Lake City in 1906 and spent much of his life in Utah.
Cope gained much of his artistic training from diverse environments and influences. Following his training with the previously mentioned artists, Cope spent the next year, 1924, working with Lawrence Squires in Arizona. To expand his knowledge and training, Cope traveled to Europe, where he studied the "old masters" such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. From 1924 to 1928, Cope studied in England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, and worked for a year at the Acadamie Julian, where many early Utah artists...
