This charmingly whimsical lithograph of a classic Toronto image—the streetcar was one of a series Charles Pachter first created in the seventies. Two electric streetcars moving away from the viewer fill the frame—in yellow and pink— hydro lines above them appear to be suspended above a large cloud. Northern Italy: A 16th Century Hand-colored Map by Abraham Ortelius
Located in Alamo, CA
This is a framed 16th century hand-colored copperplate map of northern Italy entitled "Veronae Urbis Territorium a Bernardo Bragnolo Descriptium" by Abraham Ortelius from his atlas "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum", which was the first modern atlas of the world, with the first volume published in 1570. This map was part of a subsequent volume, published in Antwerp in 1584. It was based on an earlier map by Bernardo Brognoli.
This beautiful map of northern Italy is focussed on Verona and its environs, including Mantua. Lake Garda and the South Tyrol mountains are prominently depicted. There is a very large striking cartouche in the upper left and a decorative distance scale in the lower right.
This striking hand-colored map of northern Italy is presented in a gold-colored wood frame and an olive green-colored mat. It is glazed with UV conservation glass. All mounting materials used are archival. The frame measures 21.5" high by 28" wide by 0.75" deep. There is a central vertical fold, as issued, with slight separation of the lower portion of the fold. There are faint spots in the upper and right margins, but the map is otherwise in very good condition.
Abraham Ortelius (also known as Ortels, Orthellius, and Wortels) (1527-1598) was a Dutch cartographer, geographer, and cosmographer. He began his career as a map colorist. In 1547 he entered the Antwerp guild of St Luke as an "illuminator of maps". He had an affinity for business from an early age and most of his journeys before 1560, were for business. He was a dealer in antiques, coins, maps, and books.
His business income allowed him to acquire an extensive collection of medals, coins, and antiques, as well as a large library of books...

Gregory Amenoff is a painter who lives in New York City and Ulster County, New York. He is the recipient of numerous awards from organizations including the American Academy of Arts and Letters, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and the Tiffany Foundation. He has had over fifty one-person exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. His work is in the permanent collections of more than thirty museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His work has the influence of both Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art in it, biomorphic forms in rich hues and thick textures with heightened colors and abstracted, organic forms, late American Modernism. He moved to New York in 1979, the artist rose to critical acclaim in the 1980s alongside Terry Winters, Bill Jensen, and Katherine Porter. The artist lives and works between New York, NY and his Hudson Valley residence.
Amenoff served as President of the National Academy of Design from 2001-2005. He is a founding board member of the CUE Art Foundation in New York City and serves as the CUE Art Foundation's Curator Governor. Amenoff has taught at Columbia for the last eighteen years, where he holds the Eve and Herman Gelman Chair of Visual Arts and is currently the Chair of the Visual Arts Division in the School of the Arts. He is currently the Vice-President of the National Academy.
In 2011 he received the John Solomon Guggenheim Fellowship.

Shalom of Sefad (Shulem der Zeigermacher in Yiddish Shalom Moskowitz) Shalom of Tzfat lived for over seventeen years in his native town of Safed in the hills of the Galilee. There he worked as a watchmaker, stonemason and silversmith, during the 50's. Since then this self-taught artist has achieved an international reputation. Shalom is a naive painter, but not a rustic one, he expresses a very elaborate way of thinking in his own way. While belonging to Hasidism, Shalom of Safed uses his artistic talents positively. 'I don't paint', he explains, 'to tell the story of the Bible in color and lines. In the patterns of the arable fields to the jali's (carved screens) in the architecture. It is often in childhood that paths are set for what we will become. Mukesh Sharma hails from a rural, agricultural village in Rajasthan, India. His Father is a craftsman who fixed and mended farm machinery and understood the working parts in the processes. Sharma followed in his Father’s footsteps, as is often the case in Indian families, but his was not the machines of the fields but the presses of the printing studio.
Like his Father, Mukesh Sharma is fascinated with understanding how things work and how he can manipulate the metal in his hands. It is not surprising then that his medium of choice is printing. One of the most physically challenging of all the practices, it can often be physically challenging as well as technical and detailed.
In his youth, Sharma would draw with stones on walls and floors. He was lucky his family encouraged this and he is grateful for his early art-training at the Jaipur School of Art but it was at the Baroda Art Department that he was introduced to the great printing traditions of Jyoti Bhatt...

Rare, large format poster for the 2011, Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, California. This very rare racing poster is for the 2011 race. The event poster, such as this image was not available to the public for purchase.
The artist name may be hidden inside the design, but we believe the artwork to be done by Jeff Foster.
The image was printed to give an antique feel with old edges and distress marks, but the poster is in mint condition. It features a driver looking through his helmet as he is racing, with a reflection of a palm tree and the starting flag reflection back on the face shield. The poster has no defects.
The Long Beach Grand Prix is the longest-running major street race held in North America. It started in 1975 as a Formula 5000 race and became a Formula One event in 1976.
