Her paintings and prints propel the viewer into a claustrophobic and unstable world through a perspective that shimmies between representation and abstraction. Her works reference idealistic visions of the sublime, while the medley of imagery presented eliminates the need to identify the actual places – these works do not seek to portray a specific view or experience. Zack Seckler's series, “Botswana,” is comprised of a series of exquisite aerial photographs taken in the Kalahari basin in south central Africa between 2009 and 2010. The body of work offers a quite different and almost magical view of the much-photographed and iconic landscape. In order to be able to capture these breathtaking images, Seckler enlisted the services of an expert pilot who flew a small, ultra-lightweight aircraft at low altitudes under 500 feet.
Zack Seckler was born in Boston, and studied psychology at Syracuse University. Then, traveling solo with a point-and-shoot camera in northern India, his mind opened to the visual world. Clinker-built boats have always been a fascination of mine. I love their lines and shapes at low tide. These I came across on a coastal walk in Suffolk. The sun was setting and I tried to capture the effect of light on water.
Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances.
