Remo Brindisi (Rome 1918 – Lido di Spina 1996) has been involved in the artistic environment since he was a child; first at the Penne Art School, where his father taught sculpture, and then enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. He finished his studies in Urbino at the Institute of Art for Book Illustration. He moved first to Florence where he came into contact with the artists of the time: Carena, Soffici and Rosai and then to Venice where he began an important partnership with the gallery owner Carlo Cardazzo and participated in all the Biennials. His painting is strongly expressionist, with informal tendencies, and imbued with social and political intentions. The recurring subjects are motherhood, shepherds, opponents and the Venices, represented as nightmares, the result of an analysis of the suffering caused by the traumatic events of war, horror and guilt. The Milanese years (from 1947) are characterized by a cubist flattening, the result of the controversy between realists and abstract artists and of his integration into the “Linea” group. The themes treated bear witness to collective suffering, taking on an epic character. The two cycles created by Brindisi are famous: “The Way of the Cross” (1956-1957) and the “History of Fascism” (1957-1962). In 1970 he founded the “Museo Alternativo” in Lido di Spina, where he collected works by contemporary Italian and foreign artists; he was appointed president of the Milan Triennale and was awarded the gold medal of Public Education for cultural merits. Remo Brindisi is considered by critics to be one of the greatest Italian artists of the twentieth century.

Remo Brindisi
Remo Brindisi is considered one of the greatest Italian artists of the 20th century. Involved in the artistic environment since childhood, he has studied at the Penne School of Art, where his father taught sculpture, the Rome University of Fine Arts and at the Institute of Art for Book Illustration. Brindisi fought with the Italian army during the Second World War and moved to Florence, where he came into contact with many artists of the time such as Carena, Soffici and Rosai. Brindisi’s painting is strongly expressionist with informal tendencies and imbued with social and political purposes. Guy Bardone was born in 1927 in Saint-Claude, on of the most beautiful old towns in France. His vocation as a painter was confirmed after admission to the Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Here he trained under Brianchon, Cavailles and Desnoyer. He was awarded the prestigious Prix Félix Fénéon in 1952 which set wider horizons and allowed him entry into the Paris arena.
