Vestiges of Edo in Tsukuda - Outline
Located in Koto-Ku, 13
About Vestiges of Edo in Tsukuda (Tsukuda ni Nokoru Edo no Omokage) Artist: URBANOWICZ Mateusz Woodcarver: SEKIOKA Senrei III Printer: ITO Tatsuya Year: 2020 Our first original landscape ukiyo-e depicting Tsukuda, a neighborhood next to Tsukishima station in the east of Tokyo. This artwork highlights the striking contrast between the modern architecture and historical elements, that co-exist in harmony in Tsukuda today. The Japanese title Tsukuda ni Nokoru Edo no Omokage translates to “the vestiges of Edo in Tsukuda” - the word omokage (vestige) refers to the river, an aspect of old Edo that has continued to exist to this day, despite the fact that other things may have evolved or disappeared with time. When we trace back the history of ukiyo-e, we can see that there have been many foreign ukiyo-e artists who created important shin-hanga works in the 20th century, such as Paul Jacoulet, Elizabeth Keith...

“Flower Picking”
Located in Southampton, NY
Beautifully executed original hand colored lithograph using gouache and watercolor. Scene in Surrey, England. Signedxwith monogram in plate lower left, Myles Birket Foster. Published by M. H. Long. Condition is very good. In original 2 inch wide birdseye maple antique frame with thick museum mat with gold innner edge. Overall 22 by 26 inches. Biography Myles Birket Foster (4 February 1825 – 27 March 1899) was a popular English illustrator, watercolour artist and engraver in the Victorian period. His name is also to be found as Myles Birkett Foster. Life and work Foster was born in North Shields, England of a primarily Quaker family, but his family moved south to London in 1830, where his father founded M. B. Foster & sons — a successful beer-bottling company. He was schooled at Hitchin, Hertfordshire and on leaving initially went into his father's business. However, noticing his talent for art, his father secured an apprenticeship with the notable wood engraver, Ebenezer Landells, where he worked on illustrations for Punch magazine and the Illustrated London News. On leaving Landells' employ, he continued to produce work for the Illustrated London News and the Illustrated London Almanack. He also found work as a book illustrator and, during the 1850s, trained himself to paint in watercolours. His illustrations of Longfellow’s Evangeline and books of poetry by other contemporaries were a great success, and he quickly became a successful artist in watercolours. Birket Foster became an Associate of the "Old" Watercolour Society (Later the Royal Watercolour Society) in 1860 and exhibited some 400 of his paintings at the Royal Academy over more than 2 decades. Birket Foster travelled widely, painting the countryside around Scotland, the Rhine Valley, the Swiss lakes and in Italy, especially Venice. In 1863 he moved to Witley, near Godalming in Surrey where he had a house ("The Hill") built. Being friendly with Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris, he had the house decorated and furnished in contemporary style, with tiles and paintings by Burne-Jones and Morris' firm, Morris and Company. The same year he published a volume of "English Landscapes," with text by Tom Taylor...

Yield and Overcome (Archival Print of Blue Ball Point Pen Forest Landscape)
Located in Hudson, NY
Archival inkjet print of a realistic Birch tree forest landscape made with blue ball-point pen "Yield and Overcome", original drawing made in 2022 by Linda Newman Boughton, limited edition of 15 prints made the same year Archival inkjet prints on German watercolor paper 38.5 x 30 inches unframed, framing options available Signed and editioned by the artist Excellent condition This suite of limited edition prints captures Linda Newman Boughton’s Baroque inspired landscape "Yield and Overcome" in vivid detail. Taking four months to create, the original drawing was made entirely using the artist's favorite brand of “Rite in the Rain” waterproof blue-ink pen. Working from a photograph, Boughton employed a variation of pen strokes, combining gestural lines that serve as the drawing’s foundation, with tighter strokes to develop the sections of intricate detail. From a wild and tangled web of lines emerges identifiable forms, such as a complex root system or a bushy canopy of leaves. The work itself feels kinetic; millions of mark makings vibrate with an energy that stems from a sacred connection to nature. Boughton’s passion for the arts began early, as she acted, made art, and designed theatrical sets throughout her youth. She went on to study fashion illustration at Florida State University before transferring to F.I.T in New York City. Experience in the fashion world and her love for theatre soon landed her jobs in Hollywood, painting sets and murals for feature films such as Nightmare on Elm Street VII, Fight Club, among many others. The artist lives in Ghent, NY with her husband where she continues to make art and write and create show ideas for television. Artist Bio: Linda grew up in an artistic and theatrical family in Tampa, Florida. Drawing and painting always felt effortless and fun for her. Acting and designing in theatre also made up much of her early years. Her first choice in higher education was at Florida State University where she was a theatre major and had an art minor. At the University drawing skills were emphasized, and with a love of drawing people, she found herself in a fashion illustration class, loving every minute of it. Within a year of taking that class, she taught a summer fashion illustration course at Florida State University, and soon made her move to New York City where she attended the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating Cum Laude, with a degree in fashion illustration. She worked in the fashion industry for the next several years, illustrating, designing accessories and shooting freelance photography. Her love of acting and design soon propelled her to seek out Hollywood and the creative opportunities of working in the movie industry. Within in a year Linda was working as a lead scenic artist painting sets and murals for feature films. Max Eisler Eine Nachlese folio "Poppy Field (Poppies in Bloom)" collotype
Located in Chicago, IL
After Gustav Klimt, Max Eisler #5, Mohnwiese; multi-color collotype after 1907 painting in oil on canvas. GUSTAV KLIMT EINE NACHLESE (GUSTAV KLIMT AN AFTERMATH), a portfolio of 30 collotypes prints, 15 are multi-color and 15 are monochrome, on chine colle paper laid down on heavy cream-wove paper with deckled edges; Max Eisler, Editor-Publisher; Osterreichischer Staatsdruckerei (Austrian State Printing Office), Printer; in a limited edition of 500 numbered examples of which: 200 were printed in German, 150 were printed in French and 150 were printed in English; Vienna, 1931. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of Gustav Klimt’s death. It is a fitting time to reflect upon the enduring legacy and deep impact of his art. Recognizing this need for posterity with uncanny foresight, the publication of Gustav Klimt: An Aftermath (Eine Nachlese) provides a rare collection of work after Klimt which has proven to be an indispensable tool for Klimt scholarship as well as a source for pure visual delight. Approximately 25 percent of the original works featured in the Aftermath portfolio have since been lost. Of those 30, six were destroyed by fire on 8 May 1945. On that fateful final day of WWII, the retreating Feldherrnhalle, a tank division of the German Army, set fire to the Schloss Immendorf which was a 16th century castle in Lower Austria used between 1942-1945 to store objects of art. All three of Klimt’s Faculty Paintings: Philosophy, Medicine and Jurisprudence (1900-1907), originally created for the University of Vienna, were on premises at that time. Also among the inventory of Klimt paintings in storage there was art which had been confiscated by the Nazis. One of the most significant confiscated collections was the Lederer collection which featured many works by Gustav Klimt such as Girlfriends II and Garden Path with Chickens...
