Utagawa Hiroshige (Ando Hiroshige)
View of Mount Fuji with Cherry Blossoms

Mount Rokusu in Kazusa Province. A woman is led on horseback past a breathtaking vista of Mount Fuji across a lake. Cherry trees line the path, and they are about to pass beneath a wooden torii. From the series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (Fuji san ju rokkei). Published by Tsutaya Kichizô. Not the woodgrain evident in the water as well as in the road; this indicates an early impression. Original Japanese color woodblock print by a master who strongly influenced Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists in the west.
