About the Item

This original, museum quality monoprint by renowned print maker Bill Flick features his signature skull design in shades of bright blue and green. Comes signed by the artist. BILL FICK is a North Carolina-based printmaker associated with the "Outlaw Printmaking" movement. The faces of monsters populate his linocut prints, and, for Fick, are a means of confronting and giving physical form to the unknown, the misunderstood, and the ugly events and forces that are seemingly ubiquitous in today's world. Currently, Fick teaches at Duke University and is the director of Supergraphic, a creative studio that produces fine art prints.

Skull, Original Signed Contemporary Black and Green Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Located in Boston, MA
Skull, Original Signed Contemporary Black and Green Painting 18" x 18" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Acrylic on Canvas Hand-signed by the artist. Finished with a gloss varnish. A black background allows the subject matter of this acrylic painting by artist Lindsay Hall, a human skull, to both pop forward and recede into the background. There is an amount of chiaroscuro happening on the left side of the skull, keeping it in shadow, falling into the depths. An item in a cabinet of curiosities, this memento mori work serves as a pausing point to sit and reflect on one's own mortality. The green tones to the white of the skull give this work an interesting dimensionality to it, almost imbuing it with life, ironically. The black background is reminiscent of artists like Caravaggio and the subject matter is highly reminiscent of Van Gogh's Skull of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette. Artist Commentary: I painted this when I lived in Richmond, VA above an oddities shop. Being in such close proximity to various curiosities like taxidermied animals, preserved animal organs, coffins, and the like definitely kept my mind in the spooky mood all year round. The building itself was black and had a giant grim reaper...

Skulls, 1976 (#157)
By Andy Warhol
Located in Greenwich, CT
Skulls (FS.II.157) is a screenprint on paper with an image size of 30 x 40 inches, signed 'Andy Warhol' and annotated lower left. From the edition of 60, numbered 36/50 (there were also 10 APs), and framed in a custom, closed-corner, gold-leaf frame. Catalogue - Feldman Schellmann, #157 (II.157 Skulls 1976) Andy Warhol’s Skulls from 1976 are part of the transition he began initially in 1972 with the Mao series – incorporating hand-drawn lines into the image – and with Ladies and Gentlemen and Mick Jagger in 1975 where he began the print process with his own photographs rather than appropriated ones. Additionally, in the 1975 prints, he began using collaged elements – torn paper, photographic elements, etc. Donna de Salvo writes about the Skulls series, “Skulls (II.157 – 160) lies somewhere between the genres of still life and portraiture and is based on a photograph of a skull taken by Warhol’s studio assistant, Ronnie Cutrone. The theme of skulls became a major preoccupation for Warhol, and he produced numerous versions of it in paintings. In this image, Warhol combined all three pictorial forms...
