About the Item
John Winkler (California, 1890-1979) "Night in Chinatown" Original Etching c.1936
Also known as "Figures by a Street Lamp." Winkler worked as a gas lamp lighter early in his student days as the S.F. Art Institute.
The edition is quite small and believed to be less than 44.
Signed by the artist.
Plate dimensions 12" x 8". The frame measures 19.5" x 15.5".
Very good vintage condition.
John W. Winkler, Master Etcher, was one of the finest of the early twentieth century American etchers. With his etchings and art, he captured the exciting worlds of the San Francisco Hills and Wharves, Chinatown, the California Mountains, London, France and more.
