About the Item
Hand colored woodcut, Edition 10.
William Wiley uses current political and social issues to comment on life in our time. His stunning draftsmanship, and freeform love of language are combined in paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. We are invited into a crazy, exciting and thoughtful conversation with the artist about all that makes life interesting. With a wide and ranging knowledge of art history, Wiley sprinkles historical references throughout his work. His sensuous and accurate drawing evokes the Old Masters, but when we discover the visual and verbal puns hidden throughout his prints and drawings we recognize a fellow inhabitant of the 20th century United States.

William T. Wiley
William Thomas Wiley (October 21, 1937 – April 25, 2021) was an American artist. His work spanned a broad range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, film, performance, and pinball. At least some of Wiley's work has been referred to as funk art. Wiley is known for paintings that incorporate sketch-like drawings and handwritten notations.[14] Fan for the A.M., in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art, demonstrates the artist's technique. It consists of areas of bright acrylic paint surrounded by drawings and writing in colored pencil. Other public collections holding Wiley's work include the Di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art (Napa, California),[15] and the Honolulu Museum of Art.[16]

The Night Prism
By John Buck
Located in Lyons, CO
Color Woodcut, Edition 20.
In “The Night Prism”, angled surfaces meander in an ornamental fashion delineating a human figure. This constructed body, the central motif of the print, is not meant to be an animated, mobile form, but a prism, a tool to refract or reflect light. A frenzy of activity occurs among the graphic elements in the background: air escapes from a balloon figure, multiple explosions detonate on the perimeter of a globe, surfaces appear to melt or sweat and wind blows. We seem to be witnessing a world gone wrong...
