GROUP WALKING is a vintage fine art exhibition poster by the American expressionist painter LESTER JOHNSON. It was created in 1982 in conjunction with the gallery exhibition of Johnson's paintings at Gimpel and Weitzenhoffer Gallery NYC. GROUP WALKING was printed in color offset lithography on high quality 80 lb. satin finish paper in soft pastel shades of pale peach, orange, pink, brown, green, muted navy blue, gray, black and white. GROUP WALKING is a modern figurative portrait depicting four fashionable women with auburn hair dressed in multicolored print sheath dresses and one young man wearing a navy blue Yankees cap smoking his cigarette in the background as they pass each other on a city street.
As a figurative expressionist and member of the Second Generation of the New York School, painter Lester Johnson(1919-2010) remained dedicated to the human figure as means of expression through the many stylistic changes of his oeuvre. Caroline Durieux created the technique (electron print) used in the depiction of "Morning".e. This is only one of 5 impressions. Some have theorized that the image is close to that of the artist's brother, Professor Charles Durieux.
In the electron print technique, radioactive isotopes are mixed with printing ink. A drawing is made and exposed face-to-face to paper coated with a radio-sensitized substance. The paper is then developed and produces an exact image of the original drawing.
“The image is transferred from the radioactive drawing to the sensitized paper by invisible beta rays,” says Dr. Wheeler. “Since beta rays are electrons, we named the process Electron Printing.”

Claude Lafortune was born on July 5, 1936 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was an actor and art director, known for IXE-13 (1972), Pop Citrouille (1979) and Le carnaval des animaux (1978). He was previously married to Suzanne Côté. He died on April 19, 2020 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada.
As a graduate of the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, Lafortune collaborated on many graphic design projects before he became famous for his paper art.
He had an exhibit devoted to his paper art work—titled Colle, papier, ciseaux—at the Musée des cultures du monde in Nicolet, Quebec. The exhibition has traveled to Longueuil, Montreal, Terrebonne, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Lachine, Chicoutimi, Bonaventure, La Malbaie...
