About the Item

The original 1926 poster for the "Grand Gala Cinématographique de l'aviation française" is a remarkable piece of aviation and cinema history, capturing the spirit of an era when both the film industry and aviation were rapidly advancing. This gala was not just a celebration of French aviation but also a significant cultural event, blending the excitement of flight with the glamour of the silver screen. The event was organized with the collaboration of "Les Vieilles Tiges," an association of veteran French aviators, and "Le Journal," a prominent French newspaper of the time. The involvement of "Les Vieilles Tiges" added a layer of prestige and authenticity to the gala, as these were pilots who had been pioneers in the field of aviation, many of whom had gained fame during World War I. Their participation underscored the importance of the event within the aviation community and highlighted the deep connection between early aviation heroes and the public. "Le Journal," as a major publication, played a crucial role in promoting the event, ensuring it reached a wide audience. The collaboration between the newspaper and the aviation veterans reflected the broader societal admiration for aviators and the growing interest in aviation as both a sport and a profession. In the 1920s, aviation was still relatively new, and events like this gala were essential in maintaining public interest and support for further advancements in the field. The Grand Gala itself was a cinematic event, showcasing films related to aviation, which was a popular theme in the early days of cinema. These films often featured daring pilots, innovative aircraft, and dramatic aerial battles, which captivated audiences and fueled the public's fascination with flight. The inclusion of such films in the gala provided an exciting experience for attendees, combining entertainment with the celebration of French aviation achievements. The poster for this event is an excellent representation of the period's artistic style and cultural values. It likely featured bold typography and imagery that conveyed the excitement and modernity of both aviation and cinema. Posters like this were designed not only to advertise the event but also to evoke the spirit of innovation and adventure that characterized the early 20th century. Today, this 1926 poster is a treasured artifact for collectors and historians alike. It represents a unique moment in history when aviation and cinema, two of the most transformative forces of the 20th century, intersected in a grand celebration. For those interested in the history of aviation, cinema, or French culture, the poster and the event it promoted are significant reminders of a time when the sky was no longer the limit, and the world was eagerly embracing new technologies and experiences. The Grand Gala Cinématographique de l'aviation française remains a symbol of the pioneering spirit that defined the 1920s, and the poster serves as a lasting tribute to the daring aviators and the burgeoning film industry that captured the imagination of the public during this exciting era. Original Affiches Paul Mohr Compagnie Nationale des Papers 1932 vintage poster
Located in Spokane, WA
Original small format poster Affiches Paul Mohr, 1932. Archival linen backed in excellent condition, ready to frame. The rare Paul Mohr posters are incredibly elusive; many have had only one remaining known copy survive. Printing method: Helio-Typo or Typelo. Before television, beautiful lithographs adorn the streets and walls of Paris and other European cities. Art for the street, art for the public. Weather and rain would destroy these works of art by renowned artists, only to be replaced. The artist: Paul Gustave Mohr, a French Avant-garde poster designer from the Art Deco period was born Sept. 4, 1890 in Ham, France and died on April 13, 1959 in Paris. He lived most of his life in Paris, and then settled in the small town of Asnieres, France, just outside of Paris. He attended the Sorbonne University, as well as several art schools. During World War I, he was a pilot in the French Army from 1914-1917. Paul Mohr married Jeanne Levy in 1917 and they had three daughters: Helene, Genevieve, and Jacqueline. As an artist, he designed advertising posters from 1920 to 1940. His posters advertised Wonder cycles, Dainty cycles, Lustucru pasta, Banania sugar, Bremsit brakes, Champigneulles beer, L'Union beer, Dubonnet wine, as well as shoes and ham. This information was provided to me by my mother, Helene Mohr Breitenbucher, who was his eldest daughter. Carol Schuler (granddaughter) Advertising posters, the affiches of Paul Mohr. This is an original advertising poster for the affiches (posters) created by the master artist Paul Mohr (1890-1959). Archival linen backed in very good condition. No stains, no tears, no paper loss. Grade A condition. Ready to frame. Compagnie Nationale des Papier, Paris. The crowd on the street looks up in amazement at the art deco-style images that the artist created.
