About the Item
This piece is one of a series of collages that layers images from vintage Sears catalogues from the 1960s with paint and other materials. Fogt used the process of addition and subtraction. He applied paper and paint, let it dry, and sanded off the excesses until the right amount of visual complexity is reached. Brent Fogt's fascination with mid-century catalogues like Sears’ is both historic and contemporary. In the 1950s and 60s, they were poured over by people like his father, who lived on a farm, and had little access to large department stores. These catalogues were also a precursor to today’s mega-shopping site, Amazon.
Artist Biography: The son of a Lutheran pastor and a psychotherapist, Brent Fogt (he likes to say Fogt rhymes with boat) was born in Ohio and raised in Texas. He produces drawings, collages, and sculpture that combine found materials such as furniture, clothing, and organic materials. Fogt’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Austin College, Emory University, Indiana University and the Lawndale Art Center, and in publications such as New American Paintings, Art in America, and hyperallergic. He has completed artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, I-Park Foundation and Yaddo, and was a BOLT resident at the Chicago Artists Coalition in 2017-18. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Fogt lives and works in Houston, Texas.

Make Me A Believer, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Geometric Abstraction
24" x 24" x 2" (HxWxD) Repurposed paper on panel
Hand-signed by the artist.
Artist Glenn Fischer repurposes various papers and print materials, cutting up different sections of color, and combines them into newly imagined geometric abstract compositions. The combination of the circular centerpiece and the linear nature of the cuts is reminiscent of a sunrise or sunset as it passes over a horizon line. In this case, Fischer has combined various shades of yellow, red, and green to stand against the white brick lay of the negative space...
