HAMADA SHOJI, (Tokyo 1894 - Mashiko 1978)
Enso Teacup, ca. 1970.
Natural clay and glaze, worked on a lathe (h 90 mm x Ø 135 mm).
Mashiko Chawan tea cup, with Gosumarumon overlapping circles decoration.
The firing temperature is 1260°C, which makes the ceramics durable and strong. u2028Unique specimen, perfect preservation.
Complete with the custom-made wooden box (Kiritomobako) bearing the artist's signature.
Enso, the circle that is a symbol of Mushin enlightenment (short for Mushin No Shin, literally The Mind without the Mind). Hamada belongs to the Mingei movement and was named a National Living Treasure in 1955.
