About the Item

A sculpture by Harry Bertoia. "Untitled (Suspended Willow)" is an abstract, steel and steel wire sculpture by Post War artist Harry Bertoia. The willow form is one of Harry Bertoia's most desirable forms, inspired by the willow trees on his property in Pennsylvania. Apart from the optical effect created by the wires, the wires move when passed by or touched and generate sounds. The tones vary depending on the length, thickness and type of metal. Bertoia called them ‘Sonambient’ for the organic, peaceful tones they generated. Provenance: Mangel Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Wright Auctions, Chicago, Illinois, 12 December 2013 Private Collection, California Heather James Fine Art, California Private Collection, California, 2019
