My work is a tribute to the sublime forces of nature, shaping the natural world into a metaphysical space. This blend of landscape abstraction and spiritual exploration encapsulates the dichotomy between "Matter" in the physical plane and "Light" in the quest for the ethereal and sacred. The "Portals Series" represents the synthesis of this ongoing journey, exploring the symbolic significance of the wavy line—a motif ingrained in the natural world. These sinuous lines, whether found in mountains, rivers, or lightning, symbolize both separation and connection, serving as gateways to the unknown and the void. In my interpretation, these fissures transcend mere divisions; they become conduits for detachment and evolution, mirroring the human condition.
Through artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, installation, and digital media, I aim to convey the dual nature of these cracks, portraying them as symbols of both wounds and healing. The alchemical process of transformation unfolds within these portals, illuminating the internal shadows we carry and guiding us toward newfound light and consciousness.

'Black Undulation' Kinetic Art, PVC and Plexiglass Sculpture
By Jose Margulis
Located in Rye, NY
‘Black Undulation’ is an abstract kinetic art wall sculpture created by Venezuelan artist Jose Margulis in 2017. Featuring a palette made of black and white, this PVC and plexiglass sculpture features a juxtaposition of lines, whose subtle variation of height and colors creates a combination of geometrical shapes. The minimalist quality of this piece infuses it with a sense of simplicity while the kinetic approach plays with our eye beautifully. Walking along the piece will allow you to embrace it fully. With its exquisite flowing 3D movement and nice proportions, this kinetic 2020 abstract sculpture will be a strong focal point in any room, whether placed above a sofa, console table or enfilade.
Jose Margulis was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1970. He traces his love of art to his studying photography as a young man before working for his family’s digital printing business. Today he begins most of his pieces as a digital creation which he then brings to life in a 3D world. Most of his work is created with acrylic sheets of various colors, textures, shapes and levels of translucency. “I treat my three-dimensional pieces as light traps or secret blueprints, in which by controlling the placement of its components, I’m able to create intriguing 3-D containers.” The patterns and shapes of his pieces come alive based on the angles and intensity and saturation of light at any moment, or throughout the day.
Jose tends towards a bright and fully saturated color palette which is heavily influenced by the traditional Mexican arts and craft...
