Salvaged Book Abstract Wall Sculpture, Contemporary Installation Made to Order

2020

About the Item

Made to order. Requires 4-8 weeks processing time depending on the request and the artist's current waitlist. Please contact the gallery, TurningArt, for more information. These wall sculptures created by artist Nikki Rudolph are one-of-a-kind treasures sure to please any art-lover, sustainable-thinker, and/or bibliophile! Reclaiming books that would otherwise be tossed aside and forgotten, these sculptures breath new life into the pages of literature, allowing them another chance to tell a different kind of story as a focal point in your living room, bedroom, or library! Artist Commentary: "Books are not made for furniture, but there is nothing else that so beautifully furnishes a house." - Henry Ward Beecher This Salvaged Book Wall Art Sculpture was made from books that would have otherwise been thrown away, no longer enjoyed. But look! They can have a second life as something utterly captivating. When you hang this art installation in your home people will gravitate towards it. Is it fabric? Is it water? Woodland mushrooms? What IS it? They'll want to touch it, to make sure it is real. No one has ever seen anything like it. Whats that I see? Pride and Prejudice? Is that a handwritten note on a page? It's the most amazing thing to look at from afar as well as up close. This custom order piece is roughly 5 feet high x 48 inches wide x average 4.6 inches depth and was created for the dimensions above a fireplace. You may send me the dimensions you would prefer. Although the buyer allowed the artistic process to direct the shape and flow, you are welcome to direct otherwise (i.e. if you don't want it pointing at the end, you want more protrusions, etc). I can use your old books or look for specific titles as well. Each piece is one-of-a-kind. It was wonderful to watch this piece continue to grow and expand and take on its own shape, its own personality. When I step back now that it is completed... I am completely bewildered on how it all happened. I made this one while I was in Battle Lake, MN. I worked in the unfinished, walkout basement of a cottage my granpa built in 1972. I would watch the sun go down on the lake in the most beautiful colours. I would stare at the lake all day through the giant window in front of my work table my hands constantly bending, folding, positioning (almost unconsciously my hands would do this). It was all so natural flowing beautiful. People, family, neighbors would come in and out stopping for pleasantries. Everyone fairly confused on what on earth I was doing. Other people's confusion was just more inspiration fuel for the fire of this project! After some time the creation was made and was taking shape and eventually, she was done. Right before my very eyes this art installation was born. Hangs with 5 drywall screws (included). Artist Biography: Nikki curated her very first sculpture was made in the basement of a tiny lakeside cottage in Battle Lake, MN (a cottage her artist grandfather built himself in 1972). Taken to her Chicago condo and hung with pride. From there she started creating and selling from her 3rd story walkup. She has sold to many individuals as well as upscale hotels and well-known silicon valley big tech companies.

As the water rises and falls, pages of our daily experience add and subtract to and from our memory. Our daily life permeates our memory just as the ink is absorbed into each page and create new shapes and patterns onto what once was a clean slate of a blank page." About the Artist: Yoonshin Park is a Chicago based multimedia artist, curator, and educator working with sculptural papers, artist books, and installations. Her interest in the comprehensive process of papermaking and bookbinding caters her work to encompass various elements woven into complete objects. She often uses her experience as a foreign transplant to question space and its implications in defining one's identity as the inspiration behind her work. Park has shown at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Hyde Park Art Center...

charcoal on paper mounted to silk foam core and wood Mark Pomilio’s work focuses on the research of fractals, cloning, and single cell manipulation. His mathematics-based drawings serve as a metaphor for naturally occurring systems of reproduction and growth. When Pomilio begins a piece, he doesn’t know where it will lead; although his tools and marks are precise, the layering, repetition, rotation, and distribution of basic shapes are improvised to emulate a single cell dividing and compounding into a complex form. The process of cell growth influences Pomilio’s practice and is emphasized through his own process, the use of erasure, faint outlines, opacity and translucency, and deliberate marks. The resulting compositions are balanced, unified, and harmonious. His work is included in the collections of the University of Arizona Museum of Art, Baylor University Martin Museum of Art, Dupont Corporation, University of Michigan...
