Wouter van der Vlugt
Blossom IV by Wouter van der Vlugt - Wood sculpture, round, movement, shape

2022

About the Item

Blossom IV is a wood sculpture (white elm) by Wouter van der Vlugt, dimensions are 20 × 45 × 43 cm (7.9 × 17.7 × 16.9 in). It is a unique signed piece and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. This sculpture, created from wood, reflects the artist’s deep appreciation for the material’s natural qualities — its texture, scent, and tactile appeal. Wouter van der Vlugt exclusively uses local woods, selected for their size, which he views as the foundation of their sculptural potential. With respect for this living material, he balances his creative vision with the wood’s natural imperfections, shapes, knots, and charred elements, allowing them to guide his process. Wouter van der Vlugt’s work explores the interplay of form, light, and material, blending organic shapes inspired by nature with geometric, architectural structures. By carving deeply into the wood, he transforms solid, imposing forms into airy, dynamic pieces that convey movement and vitality. Born in 1970, the Dutch artist lives and works in Luxembourg. Since the 2000s, he has showcased his work at galleries, fairs, and biennales across Europe, including the prestigious Révélations biennale at the Grand Palais (Paris, 2017 and 2019) and the Homo Faber exhibition at the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice, 2022).
