About the Item

Bronze, beautifully cast, patinated. Above a fluted round base, the figure of the Greek goddess of youth. Hébé is depicted here rising in a tight-fitting robe before an eagle, the symbol of royal power, honor, and dignity. Signed E. Drouot for Edouard Drouot, French sculptor, born in Sommevoire on April 3, 1859, and died in Paris on May 22, 1945. Édouard Drouot (1859-1945) was a prolific French sculptor, known for his bronze and marble works, often depicting allegorical and mythological scenes. Here's a summary of key information about him: Born: April 3, 1859, in Sommevoire, Haute-Marne, France. Died: May 22, 1945, in Paris, France. Education: He studied in Paris with sculptors Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. Career: He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1889. He received a third-class medal at the Salon in 1892. He earned an honorable mention at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris. Drouot was known for his sense of movement and expressive touch in his sculptures. He worked with several foundries, including Fonderie Thiébaut Frères. He largely ceased creating new works after the death of his wife, Juliette Gautier, in 1930. Édouard Drouot studied in Paris from 1880 under Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau and worked as a painter and sculptor. He had a broad repertoire and an excellent sense of movement and expression. His sculptures in plaster, marble, and bronze depict sporting and hunting scenes, exotic oriental motifs, mythological figures, nymphs, and whimsical allegories, some of them monumental in size. He was a student of Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. Edouard Drouot: Painter, sculptor of mythological themes, typical scenes, animals, and Orientalist. From 1889, he exhibited at the Salon, then in 1900 at the Universal Exposition in Paris. He devoted most of his work to sculpture, producing motifs of a mythological order and some typical motifs from his travels with Native Americans and Tuaregs. A broad repertoire, varied themes, and a sense of movement and expression make DROUOT an outstanding figure in French sculpture at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. His works are housed in various museums, including those in Bloomington, Vichy, Clermont-Ferrand, and Reims. The bronze is in very good condition, with no damage.
