About the Item
Created by Carpeaux, Francine is a terracotta bust. It is a private commission which Carpeaux accepted from rich citizens. This bust bears the number 1079 and is a lifetime cast. It does not bear the stamps of the atelier Carpeaux as this was a private commission and not intended for general reproduction. This statue was handed down by decend for several generations in the same family from Auxerre (Bourgogne) in France.

Terracotta bust of L'Espiègle or La Rieuse aux pampres de vignes signed in point JBt CARPEAUX Carpeau property stamp, eagle stamp, numbered 1801. This model, representing Anna Foucart, the eldest daughter of Jean-Baptiste Foucart, a faithful friend of the artist, was created in 1865.
