About the Item

This one of a Ltd edition of 25 sculptures by the artist. Joan Artigas Planas was born in 1960 in Vilassar de Dalt, Barcelona. In 1985 he graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. In 1987 he produced his first public monument and his first solo show. In 1988 he won a position as teacher in the oppositions for the Art Schools of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Joan is currently still active as a teacher at the High School Pau Gargallo in Badalona, Barcelona As a sculptor he exhibits in a dozen countries and participates in about fifteen art fairs each year. He has always needed to express himself through art, when he was a child through drawing and painting, encouraged by his father who was an amateur painter and later, through sculpture, when he was already studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona. The sculptor Artigas Planas (Joan Artigas Planas) is one of the Catalan artists that has exhibited more in galleries and art fairs of all over Europe. Nowadays, he works regularly in art galleries of France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherland and Sweden. The main character of his works, is, without doubt, the woman, a timeless, and mythological woman, which rests on the top of unapproachable constructions. A woman that does huge efforts for surpassing the day to day walls. The woman made of bronze is warm and sensual and dances in a structure of rusted iron. The base rises impressively, creating a contradiction between both pieces. However, in Artigas Planas’ work , the geometrical base and the figure find a surprising harmony. In his sculptures the small goddess gets along with their everyday life. Joan is also able to show the efforts, joys and dreams of the quotidian life in their expressions. Despite that firstly it may seem that the work of Artigas Planas is easy to understand, it is actually complex and, specially, personal and deep.
